So far, so good. Up 1-0 through Bellamy.

Good gosh, Bellamy was leveled by that tackle. Should be a straight red.

And the Brits let the lead get away.

I think there could have been a full-scale brawl and the cards would have stayed in the ref's pocket

Why hasn't there been a Brit Olympic soccer team in 60 or 40 or whatever years?

I don't know why there is a Great Britain Olympic Committee.

I could be wrong, but I believe it has something to do with GB being one entity for the purposes of the Olympics while England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are four separate nations for the purposes of international soccer. I know that caused some problem when picking the team to represent Britain this time around.

There aren't any players from Scotland or Northern Ireland on the team.

    No Scots? That's outrageous!

That was one of the issues. Scotland feared that allowing its players to play for GB would threaten its independent status in FIFA.
Not sure there's anyone from Northern Ireland I would take anyway.
It should be noted that Britain's goal against Senegal today was scored by a Welshman.

Yeah, from what I've always read, the reason for the lack of a GB team is all four countries' fear of losing independent status withing FIFA. "Oh, you played as one in the Olympics, so you can play as one in the World Cup" type of thing.
