Dug the mountain biking and bmx. And that 5,000 was sick.

I've got to say, when I used to catch CBC on a big dish, their coverage of just about anything was about 47% more egocentric than anything done on American networks.

The marathoners are killing it in terms of pace. Not that they really ever had a chance, two of the three Americans have pulled up injured and are out.

    Very true.

Look, I don't know if Bolt is doping or not. EVERY athlete these days operates under a cloud of suspicion. Sad, but that's the price for everything we've witnessed in the last 30 years.

It's encouraging that there seem to be fewer doping incidents at these Games. Whether that means athletes are doping less or have just found ways to beat the tests I don't know.

9 of the current top 10 are Africans.

Mark, in my day job, I read an article in a sports medicine scientific double-blind peer reviewed journal in 2007 (!!!) stating with calm assurance that at the Beijing Games, there would be genetically modified athletes in the competition. So by now, I assume that's commonplace. Anybody who uses the PEDs people know about these days is a dumb jock indeed.

Missed the marathon (thought that was supposed to be the last event?) but watching mountain biking now. Good gawd, that course looks insane. I wouldn't want to walk it once, let alone bike it six times.

Whew! Good finish there in men's mountain biking. Thought the Swiss fella was gonna pull even in the final few yards.

Brazil was up 2-0 and had match point — now Russia is level 2-2 and rolling in the fifth game. The first volleyball double since the USSR in 1980 suddenly doesn't seem like such a sure thing.

I'm gonna miss the high-pitched Olympic basketball sub horn/buzzer.

For those who have already flipped to the basketball, Russia completed an epic comeback to win 19-25, 20-25, 29-27, 25-22, 15-9 and take the men's volleyball gold. Not the greatest of weekends for Brazil.

I think traditionally it is with the winner entering the stadium just as they start the closing ceremonies. I guess because they didn't end it in the stadium this time, it wasn't that big of a deal to be the final event. That's just a guess, though.

Nice finish by American Meb Keflezighi for fourth. In most events, finishing fourth would be worse than finishing 20th because you were so close -- "I coulda done this" or whatever. In the marathon, it's a little different. It is so long and grueling, you finish where you finish.
