The marathon doesn't traditionally end during the closing ceremony. It's just that the marathon medal ceremony takes place as part of the closing ceremony.

The last Olympic marathon I'm aware of that didn't end in a stadium was in Rome, 1960. I'm guessing Montreal probably ended in the parking lot because the finish line wasn't done yet. The 2004 Athens marathon ended in the ancient Panenthenaic Stadium for historical purposes, since that's where the first Modern Olympics took place.

I could've missed it, but I'm downright shocked that I never heard the name of Dorando Pietri mentioned once during these games. The 1908 London Olympic marathon is easily within the 10 most dramatic moments in Olympic history.

My guess is that this marathon didn't end in the stadium for picture purposes. Having the finish line 'downtown,' so to speak, is a lot prettier than having to go through East London for the last few miles, which I'm guessing wouldn't be terribly picturesque.

    That three was a dagger.

Yes, a basketball genius just jacked up a contested three that hit nothing.

James has made great strides, but falling in love with the three when he does not need to take a three is something he is still figuring out.

"There will be no changing of the guard in London." ... nice touch, Fitz.

Love that Anthony Davis is wandering around holding the golden plush Olympic Mascot.

What a great game. Truly entertaining and a great way to cap the Olympics.

France edges Sweden, 22-21 to win the men's team handball Gold.

Great way to wind things up. Some day I will die a Tar Heel dead but I was pulling for Coach K. I'm also a Celtics fan and I was pulling for Kobe. That's the beauty of the Olympics. It brings us all together.

    Dear Spain:

McDonalds called, they want their uniforms returned. To 1978.
