As a Michigander, from your mouth to God's ears, but this is a city with well under a million people. Even with Windsor, it ain't happening.

My dad and sister just got back from attending the games. They went on NBC's dime (Hi MileHigh!) and said it was incredible. Londoners could not have been friendlier, the venues were awesome, transportation was pretty easy, and they enjoyed more than a few bags of fish and chips. The one event they weren't all that interested in attending originally was beach volleyball. They ended up having the best time at that particular match. I guess the crowd was really fun, and it was a much more laid-back atmosphere. They saw Mick Jagger, sat next to Rodney Harrison a few times, and my sister managed to get ragingly drunk and stalk Brian Williams around the hotel bar. Fucking jealous I am.

Queen, John Lennon, George Michael ... that's a pretty good set.

In 1984, Stanford, Harvard and Annapolis hosted early rounds of soccer. For the full Games, that may be spreading things out a bit for those into the world unity thing, but why not cities within more reasonable distance, like, say, Chicago-St. Louis-Milwaukee, or Cleveland-Columbus-Cincinnati? I'd accuse the IOC of being inflexible in its thinking, but that's a given.

Oh, because of the nature of the Olympic soccer tournament (lots of big stadiums needed), it's always all over the place. I think Mpls. was one of the sites for the Chicago bid.

I haven't seen many shots of athletes dancing. I think a lot of them are probably really confused.

I don't think British rap has made it big here yet...

That...or I am old and don't get this pop music stuff.

That performance by Eric Idle was legendary.

Promise me the Closing Ceremony pre-game will be the last time NBC insists the queen jumped out of the plane!
