Wenlock and Mandeville are going to be unstoppable!

Uh, even if she had lost the run-off she would have been in the relay pool and would have received everything you just listed.

And I don't see how she has grounds for a suit unless she can prove the photo finish image that the entire world has seen is a fake.

    1. Easy gold medal? Shelly-Ann Fraser, Veronica Campbell-Brown and the Jamaicans might have a little something to say about that, not to mention Kelly-Ann Baptiste and Trinidad.

    2. There is no guarantee Tarmoh will run on the relay team. All she is right now is a member of the relay pool. The coach decides who runs in the prelims and the final. And if I'm the coach, I'm not sure I'm picking her, especially for the final.

    3. She is not saving USATF from controversy. The fact is, USATF was going to get another night of prime time exposure on NBC, which was going to cut away from the swimming trials for the race, and the run-off had become a major story nationwide. Tarmoh pulling out is far more embarrassing/damaging to USATF than the race. Hell, this race was going to be a mini-windfall for U.S. track in terms of publicity.

She is still on the relay team, and will most likely run in London in some fashion, whether it be in the prelims or the finals. I doubt Felix will run in the relay prelims given all her other races now. If I remember correctly, being on the relay team will get her a medal whether she runs in the finals or not, all six members get the medal for being on the team, they just don't get to stand on the podium.

There are no sure things in the sprint relay, especially given the way US teams hand off the baton. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised to see Jamaica win both sprint relays, I know they'll be the mens favorites, I think the women should be too.

Amen. Last week I was going through a story on the meet and was astounded by this tidbit: The photo finish camera takes 3,000 frames per SECOND! And as the NBC crew noted, it's the position of the torso, not a body part like in horse racing, that the judges are looking at.

To clarify, you don't get a medal for merely being a member of the winning nation's relay pool. You actually have to run, either in the prelims or the final. Because Jeter and Felix are both in the 100 and 200, I'm guessing neither will want to run in the relay prelim, which would force the coach to use Tarmoh for that race (there are six in the relay pool, and as the fourth-place finisher in the trials 100, Tarmoh is automatically one of them). But after this, if there was a way to avoid using Tarmoh at all, I'd be trying to find it.

Monte Poole claims his homegirl was the victim.

I think I'll stay with our earlier view.

I sure hope Tarmoh wears stronger shoelaces than Tonya did.

She gets a gold for running the prelims right? (unless the Jamaicans win of course) Why take the chance of injury for nothing?

Getting the chance to run an individual sprint event in the Olympics is far from nothing.

I guess I'm just a competitor. If my choices are taking an easy way out to being given a medal as an alternate or beating someone's ass to earn one on my own, I'll go with a chance to earn something on my own merits.

That's Tarmoh's problem. She's a 22-year-old in today's world that thinks she's entitled to something for nothing. When she didn't get it given to her simply because she wanted it, she packed up and went home.
