    Is The Atlantic in the business of not fact checking something like that beforehand?

    Depends how they do it. What's the standard?

    I don't think, for example, we've yet heard from anyone - anonymous or on the record - who was actually in the room and saw it happen.

    Wait.. so the "corroboration" is that this isn't the first time he told this story?

    Wemple followed up with this thread. At the time, it escalated to an actual HR issue with the rep when the James Bennett (Rubenstein's boss) made a stink about it.



    You may not view that as enough corroboration, I dunno.

    I just think it's interesting that folks thought The Atlantic would run that anecdote without checking up on it at all. Comical, really. The Atlantic stands to lose a lot of credibility if it's wrong. Why wouldn't it do its due diligence?
