Todd Harmonson is an excellent reporter, writer and a class act. As someone said, big shoes to fill.

As far as living, there are dozens of places that will allow you to live like a human being and be near the heart of things at 'SC. Long Beach is a good option, as is Pasadena. You don't have to live near the Real Women of OC or the denizens of the OC.

Good buddy of mine used to work at the Register. He lives in Sunset Beach, near Seal Beach.

And Clutch, you've taken one too many monorail trips around nearby Fantasyland if you think the Register will offer 75k for this position. Not. Even. Close.

People always overstate the cost of living in metro LA/OC, for some reason. There are a slew of reputable, reasonable apartment complexes in the Anaheim/Orange area for around 900 bucks a month. In my opinion, to live 30 miles from both the beach and LA, that's a very decent deal.

Nor does anyone want to live near 'SC.
Going north, it's the SF Valley and the Santa Clarita Valley. Both pricey. But, both have "pockets of affordability."

Anaheim's crime rate is below the national average, at least it was 1999 through 2004. That's quite good for a major metro area, and it's lower than places like Long Beach.

Bland, yes. Too much of a Disney influence, yes. Unsafe? Never really seemed that way to me.

Position filled. Mark Saxon, the Register's Angel beat writer, is taking over the USC beat.

Not sure what if anything has been decided about Angels.

Considering he already lives there, I'm sure he's well-acquainted.
