Variety is the spice of life, they say.

A 1-0 baseball game happens maybe once a week.

A 1-0 soccer game happens on days that end in "y"

The fact that its hard to score is one thing I like about soccer. I like watching teams deal with the challenge of busting through.

    Just me I guess.

They need to revive the MISL. That was fun.

Steve Zungul of the old New York Arrows was the bomb.

Scored 108 goals in 40 games. The Wayne Gretzky of indoor soccer.

    Edit:

When you consider that the second leading scorer had 50 goals, the Gretzky & Ruth comparisons really are applicable.

I loved watching this guy as a kid.

It's not hard to score. It's hard to get a decent shot off, what with all the diving and flopping going on.

I like the world cup but it gets old that when one team scores, no matter, how early in the game, they are more than content to drop a few more guys back in the midfield and/or on defense and try to hang on for a 1-0 win.

It makes it very hard to watch some games when you know that one team is basically going to boot the ball out of trouble and not take many risks.

We had a high school team in our area that had been a very good program under a coach who was a 20-year teacher at the school, the soccer coach for about 10 years and also coached other sports. Because of a parent uprising, he was fired and replaced by (drum roll) the coach of the travel team that eight of the players on the high school team also played on. Seems as if the parents didn't like it that the high school coach gave the bottom 6-7 kids on the team playing time. And they were still winning. The parents of the studs got him replaced by the spineless principal so they knew their kids would be playing all 90 minutes.

And Ace is right ... there are a lot of kids in our area who are told to quit baseball, softball or lacrosse to devote 12 months a year to soccer.

Boys soccer coach at the high school I used to coach track at would recruit our runners and tell them to quit the team and play soccer year round. Made me hate soccer more. No coach, you can not have the our 4:29 miler. No he doesn't have a brighter future in soccer. He's looking at a full ride to a d-1 school.

No 4:29 miler is getting a full ride to a D-1 school ... unless it's for a sport other than track.

What about a 3:59 1500-meterer? Get with the times, old man. :)

I did not use the term miler ... mustang did.
    3:59 for 1,500 equals about 4:15 for a mile. A lot better than 4:29.
Besides, NJ runs 1,600 not 1,500.
