There are media members who feel this single game may have crippled soccer in the U.S.

On the other hand, there are some who think the screw-job was good for U.S. soccer because people are talking about it.

So what's the correct terminology for the few minutes at the end of each half? Used to be called "injury time," then it was called "stoppage time" and now it's called "extra time." Heard a new term the other day that escapes me at the moment.

Generally, it's referred to as stoppage time, but it depends on the announcer/writer.

    That's awesome.

EVen if you're a soccer fan, you've got to appreciate the Post's sense of humor & ability to sum up the sentiments of millions of American's who were willing to watch as long as the US had a shot.

Extra time is, in British English, what's referred to as overtime in the U.S.

Stoppage time/injury time are both used. Not sure when they started calling it stoppage time. Time added on is occasionally used as well.

If somebody is standing on the dieline clocking "stoppage time," why can't they just stop the freaking clock like normal sports? That way when 90 minutes are up, the damn silly game is over and everyone knows that, instead of guessing how much longer they might play.

There's having a sense of humor, and then there's being a dick.

More often than not, the Post falls into the latter category. Slapping a "soccer sucks" headline on a story may be one of the laziest moves a desker can make.
