As has been stated previously, by others, most people are probably indifferent toward soccer. It's the pro-soccer crowd who are outraged by your indifference, want to instruct you in the finer points of the game (whether you want to learn or not) and insist that, "If you'd just give it a chance, you'd learn to love it like the rest of the world!" that inspires the hatred.
When religious types do that same stuff we call them zealous or cultists. That's what too many soccer fans are -- sports cultists. You want to go drink your cyanide-laced Capri Suns, go right ahead. Just don't call me an uncultured moron for not wanting to join you.

So you've blocked the last 30 years from your memory?

Bat Man, I call noone a moron, I call you close minded for not giving sport, a fair chance.

Why do you all fear Soccer? I mean this might be deeply, psychological (sp?), beyond understandingof Kermit.

So I'm not a moron, but I am uncultured? Thanks for helping me see the light.
I've given the sport a chance. I can appreciate the athleticism it takes to play at a high level, enjoy the jingoism of the World Cup, and learned enough covering high school soccer over the years to even understand some of the strategy and write a coherent game story. It's not for me. Many — I dare say most — Americans feel the same way.
Look, you enjoy your sport. That's cute. In certain parts of the world, though, goat polo (polo played on goatback) is the national sport. They hit a sheepskin around. Probably a hell of a lot of fun. Doesn't mean people are going to rush out and form a professional goat polo league in the U.S. and charge $50 a head to watch.
    So the lesson is ...
    Soccer:America
    Goat polo:America

  11. They're awesome. If I had any interest in marriage, it would be to one.
