A Labatt Blue would do nicely.

  2. This might be my newbian status getting in the way, but when an SE sends out an e-mail, this is just an attempt to quell people from sending badgering e-mails and phone calls asking if they're in the running? I've always been of the mind that if they want you, they'll find you.

So if you're getting an e-mail that says, "We'll let you know," is it pretty much just a precursor to a no later down the road?

    I don't think it's a precursor to a "yes" or a "no." It's just common courtesy.

  4. I got one of those emails, too.

Wow, you must be special than. Not! I'm pretty sure the estimated 200 or so applicants for this job have gotten similar emails. I have and so have a couple of my friends, so it's not a big deal. It is a nice common courtesy approach from Lynn. I think more papers should do it.

You know the thing about common courtesy? ... It's not that common.
    ;)

Special THEN. THEN. Not THAN. My biggest pet peeve, the then/than thing.

  8. That bothered you more than the played-out Wayne's World NOT! reference?

But you're right, then/than is really not that difficult to get. Easier than further/farther and a/effect. But Lay/lie will always be my arch-nemesis.

I didn't even know it was possible for adults to get this wrong.

    It's way possible.
We all have our pet peeves. That's one of mine.
We all have our things we can't get right. Won't give it up but if you follow my posts closely enough it reveals itself.

I'm a huge McKenzie fan, but I would bet that 90 percent of the Sentinel hires of the last 7-8 years got their first email or phone call from Hoppes...

I also got one of these e-mails. Hope it's a good thing.
