The headline for the baseball preview tab in the Sentinel today was titled "BATTER UP."

That's my sig! Why didn't they use "Sir, could you kindly step to the plate and prepare your hitting stick?" I'm tacking an extra 50 cents to my next invoice.

ME: ...Is this Howard K. Stern? I am wondering if you do any pro bono work.

STERN: Sorry, mister. I've started in a new field. I've already made a killing twice over.

And I second what Cowbell said. We can't lose perspective here. The paper thought there was a conflict of interest, and they used that to send Steve packing. Was there more to it? Perhaps. But it's time we put this thread to bed and move on with our lives, as I'm sure both Steve and Hoppes have done.

Not Dye. More like Pube, Columbo, Javertwasscrewed or whatever he wants to call himself.

So we can expect Dave Hyde and Ed Sherman to receive pink slips in the next week.

    Bullshit.

Nice job implicating those guys somehow, though I don't know how.

What? Who? Seriously, DyePack is back?

Cool. Gee, I wonder who he is this time.

On another note, love the sig, Simon Cowbell.

This, undeniably, is the feel-bad thread of the year.

Only an idiot would advocate the "contraction" of any staff writing job at any newspaper.

Go back and read Moddy's post on Page 9.

It's not a hard concept, Simone.

And if you worked for an excellent, well-paying, fair-treatment outfit? Would it then be unfair to take advantage of them?

I've heard of countless incidents where a sports editor says, "Look, we can only pay you X amount, but we'll let you freelance as much as you want..."

I've never asked for a raise. I've never complained about money. But, if I was told I couldn't do radio or freelance anymore, and have about $10-$12K a year taken from my paycheck, that might change...
