Cubs save about $3 million in the deal and get a couple of mediocre prospects plus they get to flip Theriot for a younger, cheaper, better version of him (Dewitt).

Dodgers get a very solid starting pitcher for the rest of the year.

I like that trade for both teams.

Yankees supposedly nearing a deal for Kerry Wood. Here is your updated trade deadline schedule:

A deal among two teams fighting for the #1 overall pick in next year's draft...

Pirates trade INF Bobby Crosby, OF Ryan Church, and RP D.J. Carrassco to Arizona for C Chris Snyder and minor league SS Pedro Ciriaco.

Remember when Bobby Crosby was good?

Might as well pick up Mark Prior while they're at it.

Lilly is a tremendous addition in that ballpark.

I put the over-under on his ERA the rest of the way at 3.10.

Tom Verducci praises the Pirates for going out and signing veteran arms in the winter and turning them into prospects at the deadline. OOP's head explodes.

The Pittsburgh Pirates: Stocking up on prospects, so we can dump them in their arbitration years since 1991!

No kidding. I find it hard to believe they did better by signing Dotel and flipping him for prospects than they would have if they retained Capps and tried the same thing. Oh well. Maybe some day Bud will develop a spine and steer a real owner that way.

Braves lock down the NL East by landing Rick Ankiel and Kyle Farnsworth.
