Love him, or hate him, one thing about Mushnick that is undeniable, is that when he makes a mistake, he does own up to it in a future column.

And really, that's all he's ever asked of the folks he covers.

>>>Jay-Z is smart and talented and not a gangster or "thug" in the least.<<<

That's the whole point. Jay-Z knows exactly what he's doing, which is exploiting the "gangsta" bullshit for gain while the kids who actually buy into it live with the consequences.

My god, you're so right! If, in fact, you're thinking that he's putting out his 1990s songs while living in 2012.

And yet, he's not. Go read the lyrics to Niggas in Paris. There's no thug shit in there. It's about spending his obscene amount of money, partying, and having a goddamn good time.

There's no more thug in Jay's music. He's long gone from Marcy Projects. He's living the dream life, and his lyrics aren't "exploiting" shit.

Jesus. It's like people listened to one song in 1996 and decided that's all he's done in the past 20 years.

Oh, Boom. If I had a nickel for every time you trotted this song out like it's the cause of all the world's ills ...

Also, of course you know this since I'm sure you've heard the song, but 90 percent of what you have written in the post above is Kanye's lines.

Sort of interesting; if you type nigga into Google, it suggests niggardly.

But, once you ad an "s" to it, or if you type "nigge" (which I did afterwards, to see), it offers no suggestions at all -- not even Niggas in Paris.

Not for nothing, but if the lyrics to the song are offensive, would it really matter who wrote/sang a particular lyric?

I mean, it's still a collaboration between the two. If Jay-Z found Kanye's lines offensive, he could certainly decline to participate.

Otherwise, he opens himself up to criticism for his association with Kanye/the lyric/the song -- just as the Nets have opened themselves up to criticism for turning their corporate branding over to Jay-Z.

Understood. But you and I are operating on a slightly different plane than Boom is.

Love that "Niggas in Paris" as an example of his artistic evolution.

I ball so hard muhfuckas wanna fine me
But first niggas gotta find me
What's 50 grand to a muhfucka like me
Can you please remind me?
Ball so hard, this shit crazy
Y'all don't know that don't shit phase me

Bougie girl, grab her hand
Fuck that bitch she don't wanna dance
Excuse my French but I'm in France (I'm just sayin')

What's Gucci my nigga?
What's Louie my killa?
What's drugs my deala?

Yes, it's a joyous celebration of prosperity!

Well now you're just moving the goalposts. You said it's thug. It's not thug. Not even remotely.

Indeed. "Killa," "deala," "muhfucka" along with the popular "fuck that bitch" are for everybody now!
