I just ate six chili dogs from the local hot dog stand.
    No training or nothing.

That's fuel to help you break five minutes in the mile!

Taking some advice to lengthen my speed sessions in run-up to the marathon, today I did four two-mile repeats. Paces:

    1 - 6:51
    (Two-minute rest)
    2 - 6:51
    (Two-minute rest)
    3 - 6:49
    (Two-minute rest)
    4 - 6:53

I was going to do five of them, but I ran out of time because Mrs. Whitman needs me back by 6:30 to help with getting the kids ready for school.

Jogged a quarter-mile today. Didn't die. I'm chalking that up as a win.

Tomorrow I go for 16 miles at race pace (7:14) or better. Really I'm aiming to break 7:10. We'll see. It's the most important, challenging run of the week and I keep upping the ante, so I'm nervous, as always.

16 miles today at a 7:09 pace. A friend worries that I'm at risk of overtraining and should bag the long runs at race pace for a few weeks.

If you're not feeling the effects of overtraining (weight loss, lack of appetite, etc.) you're fine. Unless you're psychotically upping your mileage every week, your body is adapting and getting fitter. You'll want to taper nearer the event, of course.

I am definitely not feeling those particular effects.

Three-eighths of a mile today and still alive. On a side note, my thighs hurt so fucking bad that I literally can't bend down (like normal) and mark my golf ball. My awkward-squat approach has made me much in-demand (for comic relief) among my golf group.
