From the church-affiliated D-III college I get to keep up with:

The PA announcer is making the usual pregame announcements: "This game is being played under the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, blah, blah, blah, blah. Use of alcohol, tobacco and abusive language is prohibitted."

Grizzled former player running the clock (with a pinch already between cheek and gum): "What the hell else we supposed to do on a Saturday night?"

What about being on the other sideline with the stick crew?

Not in the press box, but on this Friday night I saw:

    A 4th and 52
A sophomore female defensive tackle who played fairly well in garbage time.

At least you have the option of box vs. sidelines. I'm pretty sure that if I tried to leave the public seating to cross the partition in the courtroom and get closer to the judge/prosecutor/defense/jurors/witness, some bailiff would shoot me.

(Oh, and my former answer was pressbox. With a cane and a knee brace, I don't have the luxury of standing for 3 hours. Tried it, didn't go so well.)

    First half: Sidelines for pictures.
    Second half: Press box, please.

Where I used to work, the smallest level of football schools had graduating classes of 20-40, so when talent went dry, it was gone and the team was made of scrawny go-getters. A monster linebacker/fullback/guard played at that level, and was destroying a scrawny team.

Little wideout 1: Test him! Test him!
Little wideout 2: Check his age, too! He's like 38!

Not in your area of the woods. The people in the gallery would be more likely to shoot you. And Austin is not the nation's worst HS team. They have had a few pretty good recruits, too.

Man, I would kill to have a storyline that good.

  10. If you were working the game -- and why else would you keep stats? -- that was an incredibly dumbass and unprofessional conversation. You might think you were amusing, but you're representing the media outlet that hired you. Keep it professional or immediately resign and take up quilting so you keep warm while sitting in the rooting section.

Back off, newb. I don't need a lecture from you, two weeks later, about professionalism or anything else.
I'd known this guy for 15 years and he was a guy you could shoot the shit with. We kibitz each other all the time. I take his shit, he takes mine.

Can we start a "press box vs. field" thread for this shit?

This was a pretty entertaining thread about three pages ago.
