Hmmm, don't have to read between the lines much to know who this is...

We do have running clock procedures.

And saying milking the clock needs to be done is like an umpire squeezing the strike zone. It shouldn't be done. To be a competent official, you need to be consistent in all aspects.

That may not be any different. My dad is an official and ECO, but if the game is out of hand...the clock is not stopping for anything.

If your dad isn't following correct clock procedures he's a shitty official.

Tell that to the AHSAA who put him in the Super 6 6A state championship game three years ago as an ECO. We're talking Jr. High girls here, not region championships...

I've seen similar conversations between columnists and interns/security/etc.

The last time was at MNF game and the columnist summoned the kid who was passing out the stats and asked him to send over the head PR guy.

    "I'll see if I can."

    "Tell him it's me."

    "What's your name again?"

Columnist gets up, puts his arm around the kid and walks him back to where the head PR guy (a legend) is. The kid is mortified, and of course it's a huge ego move by the columnist, but there's no malice.

There's a big difference between that and what a midget from the Daily News may or may not have done.

Late football game, everybody is getting back from the pressers and the locker room.

One of the beat writers is frantically writing and transcribing tape. About 30 minutes later the columnist walks in loudly without a care in the world and walks up to the beat writer.

"Yeah, you know where the coach talks about what happened in the fourth quarter. I'm going to take the quote about the interception and also the quote about the touchdown and the quote about how this is one of the best wins in franchise history. I'll also take quote from the QB and the RB on the same thing...

"How about I JUST take those?"

Beat writer is silent. Columnist walks back up to the second row to write.

A couple of us who are sitting just feet away try to stifle our snickering. But when three of us are trying to do it we're all about to explode and laugh our asses off.

The beat writer stands up, holds his laptop in the air, highlights his entire gamer and hits delete. He then turns to his columnist who is happily typing away in the second row, oblivious to his beat writer and oblivious that he may have done something wrong.

"HOW ABOUT I BEAT YOU UNTIL YOU DIE!!!"

    Beat writer storms off.

    Columnist: "What's he mad about?"

The giant thud was three of us falling on the floor from laughing so hard.

Why didn't the beat writer just tell the columnist, "Sorry, I've already taken them. Come up with something else."

If he's working any level game in any capacity as a state official, he needs to follow procedures. I'm sure he's not actually bad, but that kinda pisses me off that any official thinks they can alter the rules to fit the situation. If this wasn't a state sanctioned event, I apologize.

Maybe. But I stand by my above assertions.
