Never had a complaint for a wrong name. Been doing this since I was 17. Seems to work for me. Most kids (especially the young ones who never play) are inclined to talk to newspaper guy.

  2. I have had kids lie - maybe not maliciously, but lie nonetheless - about their names, the spelling of their names, their positions on the team, their class, their JROTC ranking and all sorts of other things. And I've only been doing this out of college for about five years.

When I was working on the college paper a photog came back from shooting some man-on-the-street thing. Two of the people she shot and asked the question to where my roommate and a girl he was seeing. The names the photog had for them were Barry Larkin and Kris Sabo.

Some 15 to 17 years later, I vividly remember a letter to the editor in the Detroit News from Dick Gozinya from Garden City.

I know our features section had a standalone shot of a group eating out at a new diner in town and one guys name was Jack Mehoff. Yup it ran in the weekly features tab.

Detroit's NBC-TV affiliate congratulated him on his anniversary a few years back, and a suburban Detroit paper (not mine) had him in a hole-in-one listing.
