This thread has gone from funny/outrageous things overheard in the press box to the heartache of being unable to acquire accurate rosters for high school games.

    Overheard in the press room

    "Roast beef, chicken or steak?"

    "Hot dogs."

  3. seems like about 95 percent of the threads on this message board ultimately come down to who's a bigger foof

Class 5A state championship game in at San Antonio's ancient Alamo Stadium. We are all crammed in to this very small press box. In walks the mayor of San Antonio and he's yelling and cheering for the San Antonio team. Then during a break in the action the mayor asks "are you guys excited about this game." A current Cowboys writer turns around and says "Man, I don't give a damn who wins this game." The mayor left soon after that.

If I had a kid tell me that, I'd tell him to fuck off. He goes by Mack. If he wants it MacK, I need to documentation for me to spell it like that.
The toughest name to spell in our area at Mattyasovszky. It's saved in my Word dictionary. I don't have a clue how to pronounce it. Unfortuntately, the kid's a stud athlete in three sports and still has next year left.

Rhody, if my name is Chris (short for Christopher) you would print it, right? His name is MacK (short for MacKenzie)..or are you just upset because his mom gave him a middle-name capital?

There was a wide receiver at Florida State some years ago named 'OMar Ellison (he also played briefly with the Chargers). The apostrophe and capital M were part of his legal name.

Supposedly, his mother got really snippy with the FSU SID folks and local media if his name was spelled Omar in print.

Cool thing going on in Alabama - Next year the AHSAA is mandating a room or area be designated for press inside each press box.

    Bullshit.
Having happened to be on the phone with someone from the AHSAA when I read this post and asking about this, I call bullshit. This person had no idea where you got that or where it came from. And he would know something like this.

If it's true -- and I side with slapster here, and I'm not even from Alabama -- how the hell can they police that? Aren't there some 500 or 600 schools in that state?
