Not here to defend Lynn Hoppes, but a couple of questions:
Isn't one of the rules of this blog that posters are assured of anonymity? If so, moderators reporting on the last time Lynn was signed in seems a breech of that confidentiality.
Also, isn't another rule "no personal attacks"? If so, a lot of posts here are way across that line.
Especially from people who are logged in under aliases.
If you have something bad to say about someone, say it under your real name.
    Just saying ...

ANYONE can see the last time ANY poster was logged on. All you need to do is click on their profile.

Hoppes chose to register under his name, not a handle. Anyone can check when an account was last active, not just mods.

We appreciate the lecture from someone working for a repressive regime. If we posted under our real names in the country where you work, we could be thrown in prison and tortured.

Does or does not the site's rulebook say "no personal attacks"?

Calling a fraud a fraud is not a personal attack.

So threads disparaging plagiarism are only allowed if the plagiarist is not a member of sj? How would we ascertain that without violating confidentiality?

Disparaging plagiarism is one thing. I think what he did was abominable, and a firing offense. No question. I'm 100 percent with you on that.
But the personal attacks are over the line, in my humble opinion.

He was fine for the role that he was hired for. Like Carrie said he was there to deal with the shit that Van didn't want to deal with. Those roles never go to the most talented people but the ones willing to do anything to have a title next to their names. Obviously Hoppes is cut from that cloth, he's probably psyched that Deadspin talks about him. But, like I said before, no one has milked a career out of Van McKenzie's work like Hoppes.

Van McKenzie, while good, wasn't God. Hoppes did his job and apparently did it well. All of that is the past. What is at issue is what he's currently doing, which is as wrong as two left shoes.

Not here to talk about the past.

All I can say is the 5 seconds I made him wait before saying I'd cover Florida State-Stetson with less than 2 hours before tip-off were the most delicious any stringer could ask for.
