Not only is this unethical, but it's just stupid. Copying and pasting from Wikipedia was something the idiot freshmen I had as a T.A. did. Those I caught rightly failed the course.

There are some people who, for whatever reason, are able to defy physics and when they stumble, they don't fall down; they fall up. People who hear a lot of good ideas and have no shame about claiming said ideas as their own. People who find a way to latch their name to anything that might gain recognition or an award. People who have mastered the art of schmoozing and are a hell of a lot better about talking about work than actually, you know, working.

Lynn seems to possess all of these traits. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Above all, it would appear that he has passed through this latest crisis.

First of all, you're advising me not to respond and asking a question at the same time. Whatever. Is it reckless to say that journalistic standards of 10-20 years ago have eroded fairly significantly? I don't think there's a serious media observer who believes otherwise.

Has ESPN issued any kind of statement or is this just being collectively ignored?

In his intro sentence to the Pat Summitt piece, he mangled her actual quote from her speech, the one thing he was supposed to take verbatim from somebody else.

Dunno, just kinda made me chuckle.

I don't know Lynn Hoppes, so I'm not defending him. But I do have to ask: How do we know that the stuff was at Wiki-pedia first and then in Hoppes' writing and not the other way around? Wiki-pedia is not known for its original information, either.

Could Hoppes have written the entries and then someone lifted them from his copy to Wiki?

    Just askin'.

There is a way you can check Wikipedia to see when edits were made to entries, and thereby could check if the passages in question preceded the Hoppes posts.

I have no motivation to do that, but if you do, go for it.

The Tyson info has been the same on Wikipedia since August 2010.
