The happy fox takes her food to go, apparently.

Then use a pump and take a bottle of breast milk when you have to be out when your child will get hungry. Or go to the car. Or the restroom.

There's really no reason to breastfeed a child in a crowded place. None.

Just curious, why can't those mothers pump breast milk, freeze it, then carry around for the baby when he or she does get hungry in public?

I see adults eat in a far more disgusting manner in crowded places than any breastfeeding I've ever witnessed.

And J_D makes the best point on the thread thus far.

No, J_D made the most glib comment yet. No point.

That's not the argument. The discussion is about women exposing parts that are illegal to expose otherwise. Not about drooling.

And I will trust Mr. A-T-M on the issue of disgusting places to eat.

I only have two problems with public breastfeeding (and I'll explain both):

1.) When I'm caught completely off guard. While working the desk one night, I walked over to ask a reporter a question. Beneath her desk stood her 2-year-old daughter. Mom's tit was just hanging out there, and the kid was going to town. If you're going to do it in the office, etc., throw a blanket over the process to protect those who might be offended.

2.) While I'm eating. Same mother and child about a year earlier -- at a company dinner to honor a good friend at his retirement -- whips it out at the dinner table directly across from me and the publisher who's sitting beside me. I have no problem seeing a mother breastfeed sitting on a bench in the mall. I have no children, but I believe it is a natural and wonderful thing that's healthy for everyone involved and thus encourage it.

That said, I thought it was a great photo.

I wouldn't suggest women stay indoors. I would suggest they frequent breast-feeding friendly places, and resist the urge to present the tit in mixed company when at all possible. A man's balls might sometimes get so hot as to worry about harming his sperm count, but I don't suggest dropping them out of the breeches to let them cool down.

Did someone just call me Mr. Ass-to-Mouth?

No, I was referring to Zeke. Meaning I trust his assertion of the accuracy of your statement. Sorry for the confusion.

Gee, maybe we should get a mother's point of view. ::)

    Hey, that would be me.

I breast-fed my children. And even in public.

When Baby is hungry, she is hungry. There are two things going on here -- she needs to eat, and the mother's body is pretty much in sync when Baby needs to eat. If Momma doesn't nurse Baby, she is going to have a soaking wet shirt. Baby will also start crying and crying.

Would you rather listen to the baby scream because you might be offended if the mom nurses? Get over it! Oh, so should the mother and baby be chained to the house for three, six, nine months till the baby isn't nursing anymore? That's pretty Middle Ages, especially if Mom needs to go grocery shopping because her hubby is on the road to make a living to support the new family.

For the record, when I did nurse my babies in public, I used a receiving blanket to cover baby and myself. Not so much for modesty's sake, although that was a bit of it, but to keep the distractions down for the baby. After going through a pregnancy, there pretty much isn't anything left to modesty. Just a fact of life. Never once did I resort to a public restroom. That is just disgusting to even think about. YUCK!!! And where is the mother supposed to sit? The toilet? GROSS!!!!!

And for those of you who are equating breastfeeding to urinating in public should be grounded!!! It is not even close to the same thing.

IJAG, if you think a breast-milk bottle is an option, you have a lot to learn. I stayed at home when my kids were babies, and there was no way my daughter would take a bottle when she breast-fed. None. No way.

If you have a problem with a mother nursing her baby in public, it's your problem, not hers. So quit staring and get over it!
