There's another religious sect that is similarly motivated. Can't place it ... tip of my tongue ... oh, who are they ...

Seems to me this makes perfect sense. If they're safe there, they don't need to come here:

Graeme Wood's "What Isis Really Wants" is one of the best things I've read this year. I learned more in this (long) piece than all the other things I've read about ISIS put together. He skillfully points out that — yes — Islam (mainline, not just fringe belief) is at the heart of this. But he also makes a good case for taking Obama's tact.

    What ISIS Really Wants

Having grown up a fundamentalist Christian and being one until I was about 22 or 23, the end times doctrines are frightfully similar. Having once felt that dreadful belief that we're at the end of days can make you believe anything, do anything and disregard others so easily because you're convinced the long run doesn't matter. The only goal is to "save" others as quickly as you can. In ISIS' case, that means killing all the people in violation of their medieval laws. And anything we do to put boots on the ground in Syria will only play into that eschatology.

People with visions of Armageddon scare the shit out of me. They're the most illogical and they feel like they have nothing to lose.

But if they're safe there, then the Facebook memes suffer.

Looks to me like our politicians are doing a better job of spreading fear and hatred than ISIS is.

Or ISIS's leaders are using religion and Armageddon to manipulate their forces and only care about worldly power.
