The way your brother trained McGwire for 2-4 WEEKS?

It appears I need to catch up on the videos he posted. I'm not aware of this reference, but there's no way that this aspect of John's training of Mark was only 2-4 weeks, unless it was only at the heaviest level John's discussing.

Remember, John's a powerlifter. Almost all of his training involves a very high % of his maximum. Anyone who is doing less than what John does is 'not training heavy.' That might be the reference. I don't know, I'll have to watch the video to see. But if I'm wrong, I'll readily admit it. Thanks, IJAG. :)

Actually, I'd completely forgotten. I mean, it's not like he mentions in each of his 57 posts on this board.

    Oh, wait.

Sorry, no poll with 14 voters is ever "VERY interesting."

It was a reference to a short-lived thread on here posted yesterday by the "special guest" on John's video. The former baseball player from the "U" who worked out with "Kevin Winslow Jr." (sic, good work JDV!)

He pretty much blew holes in every. single. bragging. point your brother has tried to make. Said his time working with McGwire was no more than 2-4 weeks.

Sweet. I imagine him exhibiting that level of clarity in real life.

Ha ha. That was a silly statement, wasn't it? My bad. I'd checked out of the thread for awhile and came back in without my 'gameface' on. My bad. :)

I know training pretty well, but JDV's level of knowledge of training is numerous orders of magnitudes above mine. So there's more than a fair chance the 2-4 week reference is correct. But here's what I think: 2-4 weeks would be the normal time for a certain phase (e.g., the absolute heaviest phase) of training. That might have been what JDV meant/said. I'll check the tapes. Anyway, before and after this phase, Mac still would have been doing deadlifts and squats, lifts he had never done before. These two lifts are the most reliable mass-builders of any lifts, even at less than the heaviest loads used. So for a guy who had never done these lifts, he's going to get a very noticable weight gain from these. It's like going out and running a marathon when the furthest you've ever run is 1 mile. It 'shocks' your body and makes it release a ton of growth hormones. Squats is the king mass builder, and deadlifts is a close second. Bench presses, curls, etc. are a joke compared to these lifts. And most mlb guys don't do them, because they are tough and they hurt.

No your not wrong Rokski. I trained Mark for much longer than 2-4 weeks. Moreover, as you know I was around him for years and we continued to work out together & once you learn the basic principals you can do some things on your own (although you know how I constantly tune/customize programs) and most athletes lose gains when not training with me (if they have trained with me in person), even when I am doing their programs remotely as they all slack on their intensity compared to me.

I mean this is all basic stuff and I am not going to get into my methods here - sorry.

Suffice it to say this is more BS, and the bottom line is that the BIGGEST gains in strength and mass Mark ever made in MLB where when he trained with me during that first offseason. He went from 235 to around 250-255.

This was all documented contemporaneously by local media (SF Chronicle) & I did interviews for this on KNBR (Ralph Barbeiri) and KNEW (Vernon Glen), etc. This was also covered subsquently in many other magazines (Powerlifting USA, Natural Bodybuilding, etc.) and we did a lot of promotions and ads via my former company Power USA. This again is well known.

Moreover, I have a signed endorsement to this effect from Mark himself.

I have no idea where IJAG is getting her "timeline" but its garbage.

Sorry haters but there is no there there. Love me or hate me I am for real. Let's drop the revisionist history becuase I have the facts AND the paperwork

& remember I am a nice guy & can take jokes all day long,

However, I am also a top lawyer & don't take misrepresentation or outright lies real well.

    Thanks,

    JDV
