24 pages to get to the word of a guy who trained him that Big Mac was clean?

    Wow. Just wow.

    JDV,
This is a serious question and will assist in helping your credibility issue. Could you please post (or you could PM to me your answer) your qualifications with respect to your being an expert in training elite athletes? What is your education in the field or is it merely your experience in powerlifting (which I will not dispute)? With which athletic training associations are you certified?
Once I have checked into these facts, I will attest to your credibility with respect to your training expertise.
    Cheers.

    Hey Boom,

Thanks a lot - much appreciated.

First a disclaimer: as explained I will not go into my elite routines as that is my IP and I plan to train more athletes. However, I may be willing to break the some of my secrecy to help Mark if truly needed.

You all have to respect that I have worked all my life to gather this knowledge and that is how I am able to compete and train others to compete against the drug users/abusers

Ok, so here is the deal.

There is no perfect routine & any great routine needs to be constantly adjusted to meet the athletes changing goals and condition. For example as I get faster or leaner or bigger I need to change X, Y, or Z

For simplicities sake to answer your question - assuming you are trying to be toned and lean out some start with this

1.) Do weights at least 4 days a week 10 reps or less. Push yourself but don't kill yourself if you are just starting off.

2.) Do cardio at least 4 days a week as well (you can do these on off days or overlap with weight days) burn at least 500 cals per day if possible. Things like cross trainers, walking on treadmills at inclines, etc. are good things to do.

3.) Eat right (a whole OTHER subject)
    4.) Drink lots of water
5.) Cut sugar, drinking, and bad fats as much as possible
    7.) Sleep well

    That is the basic stuff

Now as to creatine and other supplements. The right form of creatine is great stuff (& there are lots of forms of it). Probably like KreAkalyne or Creatine Ethyl Ester are the best quality as they do not add any water weight to you.

First, let's clear something up - creatine is natural and in our diet and in our bodies. It is an energy source, a form of carbohydrates that is stored in the muscle as one of the "first lines" of energy for those muscles. So all the scare stories about this are bogus.

Now of course the wrong form, too much of anything, or using at the wrong time is different - but most "problems" with creatine derive from cramping which is easily avoided.

I personally use creatine very sparingly as I don't want weight gain (even the slightest) for what I do and want to know where my "baseline" is. So, when I use it typically it is for recovery just after a hard workout maybe closer to a contest or something as it will speed nutrients back into your muscles.

but that is just me I know tons of people that love it & use it a lot.

I would also invest in a lot of good EFA's (fish oil) antioxidants (Co-Q10, grape seed extract, etc.) and joint supps (Glucosamine, MSM, etc.)

That should get you rolling and I can help more later.

    Thanks Boom,

    John

So after I've been dragged through the mud by this clown for however many posts, he now changes my name to imajustgirl?

I guess that means I'm right after all, if I'm just!

Hey Rosie, fair enough. I don't have anything to base it on so I don't know & I am not used to treating people that way - but as all can see I will respond.

But look its all good. Thanks for the context.

John - That's solid advise. I should have prefaced by saying that I have been pretty much been training most of my life for 5-6 days a week.

I would say that my training knowledge is a little bit more advanced than many but I am always looking for new regimens and ideas to break up the monotny.

Agree with your approach on creatine. I have used on and off for training and even without "loading" have found it to be very effective suppliment.

I prefer to use KreAkalyne because as you correctly stated you do not get the bloating associated with reguliar creatine.

One commercial program that I have actually found very effective in training is Bill Phillips - Body for Life. If you cut through bs it is a very solid sustainable regimen.

Also like to train in very high intensity circuit type routines.

A goal of buring 500 calories a day is a good one for all to adopt .

JDV, why should anybody believe you when you say McGwire didn't use PEDs? Sure, you say you're telling the truth, but can you prove it?

Your word just isn't enough, no matter how many videos you put on YouTube or how many times you repeat it here.

    Hey Flash,

I see you are Canadian - I dig Canadians - great people. Heck I would even consider having a place in Toronto if it wasn't so cold most of the time - awesome city & nightlife.

    Anyway, to answer your Q.

1.) I am an expert by virtue of having done it successfully for so long at a high level with many many athletes - Mark is one of many. Literally dozens of top athletes.

2.) As you can see I pursued many paths in my life simultaneously. Thus, ultra focusing on training would not suit my goals and frankly be superfluous.

Thus, I never got a cert or anything like that it is unneeded and carries no weight with my clientele. My own achievements, client list, and most importantly results are all that matter & all that should matter. That is not to knock anyone who got a degree in training in Ex Phys or has a cert - but for my needs it is a waste of time. Also, I spend a lot of time pouring over literature & studies (US, Soviet, German, etc.).

3.) I have been a high level athlete in many sports not just lifting. (as will be detailed on my site)

4.) In doing #3 I always used my lifting to enhance my athletic ability that was always the goal. Thus, my routines are designed to max out athletic achievement (& there is a lot to that I won't get into here).

5.) To that end, PL is relevant as in most sports typically power to weight ratios are critical which PL helps develop nicely when used correctly. Additionally, it helps max out limit strength which is also important for many sports.

Although, there are LOTS of other methodologies and techniques that I employ. Again, it is the mix, customizations, adjustments, and translation into the players sport that is the "secret" if you will

Look at the end of the day why athletes respect me is because I still have it at age 36 drug free, even after competing at an elite level for what over 20 years & living a normal, strike that busy life with other pursuits. I can walk the talk if you will & do.

More importantly, I have the ultimate trump card. That is I can put up or shut up so to speak. Often I will ask a skeptical athlete to give me say 1-2 months and see the results - NONE have ever been skeptical after that (to my knowledge) and that's a fact.

I mean that is the bottom line - those guys don't care what your degrees are in my experience they only want results & really that is all that matters anyway, right?

I hope that helps answer your Q

Ok, now I have answered all the good Q's I saw fairly & have to bounce to do some work now.

    Thanks again,

    John

Right, it is impossible to prove a negative.

That is true for anyone not just me. Only Big Mac knows for sure

However, my knowledge and experience should carry MUCH weight - (if not be dispositive) on this issue until he talks or we have stronger evidence.

In any case, my whole argument has been if there is no good evidence that he did use and a lot of other players have always used drugs in MLB (including some in HOF when you count amphetamines that are rife through MLB) why not let Big Mac in the hall since his achievements warrant that?

The FAIR thing to do in my humble opinion would be to put him in and then take him out (possibly) later if evidence comes out down the road that would require that.

Why has no one thought of that?

Which has left us in this land of twisted logic like "Barry is ok bc he would have been a HOF without drugs but not Mark, etc, etc," It has gotten so stupid.

This just seems so Un-American to me and NOT due process in any way.

    Just my opinion

    John
