I'm OK with this sucker getting locked down, although I reserve the right to occasionally post "short, imagined John D. Villerreal conversations" elsewhere on the board. It'll be harder without being able to borrow from his long-winded delusions of grandeur (we all steal from John D. Villerreal, after all), so hopefully he sticks around and keeps posting elsewhere, whatever.

    Who is Player A?

Both players are John D. Villareal.

    He played them simultaneously.

  4. I know, but I'm guessing Gold doesn't want the identity revealed for the purposes of his argument. Let's just say, Player A likely never used steroids.

Player A is Fred McGriff. Player B is Mark McGwire.

Either way, you can't just look at stats in a vacuum to determine Hall of Fame eligibility.

Shouldn't the Crime Dog get in for his Emanski commercials?

Yeah, I'm trying to get my name out there. Because Perennially Overrated is my real name. Whatever.

I'd go with "or something" over "only want to get their name on the hottest thread."

A gold star to the big Ragu. You have to look at players in the context of their times.

My point is that nobody would say Fred McGriff is a certain Hall of Famer (and I have no idea whether the Crime Dog used steroids or not). No doubt McGwire had some great seasons, but McGwire could hit for power and that was the only dimension where he stood out... a big dimension, but McGriff accomplished more over his career and was a better player in post season.
