    That's pretty good, JJ.

I'd just add: Put yourself in their shoes. You're being all but accused of killing your daughter by the cops. You didn't do it. The police dept. is leaking like a sieve and every suspicion the cops have is plastered all over the front page of the tabloids at the local grocery store. Your own damn neighbors, people who you've known for years, think you're guilty. Some of your family members turn on you. And you know -- KNOW -- that the minute you hand over some DNA tests, the headlines from CNN to the Enquirer will read: "Police order DNA samples from Ramseys, arrest expected."

I would've done exactly what the Ramseys did -- listen to my attorneys.

And tomorrow morning, if I'm John Ramsey, I spend whatever it costs on a full page ad in every major Colorado newspaper to deliver this message: "HEY, EVERYBODY, KISS MY INNOCENT ASS."

    From USA Today: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-08-16-ramsey_x.htm

Lt. Gen. Suwat Tumrongsiskul, head of Thailand's immigration police, told reporters Karr confessed to the killing after his arrest.

"He told police while under arrest that he did kill the girl but so far he has not pleaded guilty in writing," Suwat said.

Mark Klaas made the point that the guy may be saying anything to avoid prison over there.

The police have said that he knew details of the crime never released to the public.

    Lucky guess?

Also, I did not realize until recently that there was DNA evidence in her, um, panties that was unaccounted for. If it's a match, there's your ballgame. If it doesn't fit, they must acquit.

Please get your facts straight. The players DID cooperate by providing DNA samples. However, there has been no "vindication" as you call it. The court of public opinion has swayed wildly from one end to the other. But charges have not been dropped, the last I checked. Vindication can only come if the charges are dropped or the players are found not guilty.

As for this guy arrested in the Ramsey case, I wouldn't be so quick to assume he's guilty. Already, there are massive holes in his story. The NY Times reported that his ex-wife said the two were together IN ALABAMA the morning of JonBenet's murder. The ex-wife said her former husband had become fixated with the murder and researched it. So he would have some depth of knowledge of the investigation. The suspect was hand-delivered to the police by the Ramseys, too. That doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence.

I would wait to see how each case plays out before convicting or exonerating anybody.

Finally weighing in after checking w/ my former colleagues who covered (dare I say convicted?) Patsy and Co. ...

This suspect's a nutjob and not involved. There are pictures of him w/ his family on Christmas day, 1996.

Here's what everyone must keep in mind. Patsy's handwriting matched the ransom note and the figure -- 126K -- matched Mr. Ramsey's Christmas bonus. No one unfamiliar w/ the family would ever have asked for that amount.

I hope the CO police did their homework because somethign smells about this to me. Someone mentioned it elsewhere that this yahoo may be singing a fake song to get himself out of the fun and frivoloity of the Thai prision system, and that's the feeling I getting right now.

Since the murder happened right around Xmas, his whereabouts should be fairly easy to confirm. I heard one report where his ex-wife or a relative said there was no way he could have been at the scene because he was with them in Alabama. That should be pretty easy to affirm or contradict from a number of people.

Here's hoping the investigators have done their homework and have somethign to corrobate his story--DNA, ideally; if not, enough puzzle pieces to make it fit together, because it would be an absolute shame across the board if this is a hoax of epic proportions.

Can anyone tell me why Homeland Security is involved with bringing the suspect back to the US??

From an AP report... "John Mark Karr, 41, will be taken within the week to Colorado, where he will face charges of first degree murder, kidnapping and child sexual assault, Ann Hurst of the Department of Homeland Security told a news conference in Bangkok."

I wondered that, too. Seemed odd.

And if this guy did do it, I have one big question ... He knew the Ramsey's from when they lived in Georgia. You mean to tell me he was obsessed enough to fly across the country and find out where the Ranseys lived but the Ramsey's didn't know he was in town? I guess it's possible, but reports indicate the Ramseys brought up this guy's name to investigators rather recently (as in the past year or so). So how did they come to know he was in town 9 years later? Doesn't compute.
