OK, haven't listened to the new album from that link yet. Having problems with needing a plugin and it's not downloading right.

Anyway, I've been listening to all my old PJ stuff, and while we're waiting for the album to come out Tuesday, decided to bring up a topic we've already discussed some but can't cover enough -- What are the best PJ cover songs?

Here's my top five (and I'm damn sure I'm leaving something out):

    1) I've Got a Feeling
    2) Baba O'Riley
    3) Hide Your Love Away
    4) Rockin' in the Free World
    5) Dock of the Bay (haven't done much, but it's on a live album I've got and I love it; also love Won't Back Down from that CD)

Also, are there any other big-time bands that so unabashedly play covers at their concerts?

Not as big a name as some, but Gov't Mule always plays covers at their shows (and even have a CD of cover songs), and the guys are such unbelievable musicians they almost always sound better than the originals. Their cover of Cortez the Killer is great, and I saw them do a live cover of Take Me to the River that would have blown the Talking Heads away. Sorry for the momentary threadjack, but the question was raised.

One of my first PJ bootlegs was called Covering Them, all cover tunes. It was one of my favorite discs of all time. Unfortunately, it got sat on or stepped on sveral years ago and is now in the big jukebox in the sky.

    Covers:
    Masters of War
    Crazy Mary
    Won't Back Down
    Hide Your Love Away
    Doors/Who covers

Really, five isn't enough. "Everyday People," "Shower the People/Brass In My Pocket," FOrtunate Son," "Throw Your Arms Around Me" ..... they're all good.

Last song on the new CD has a track time of 7:08. Either it's their longest song or we get a post-disc freebie. :)

  5. The new cd is phenomenal. Have listened to it 5 times now. I rank it their second best album, behind Yield and just above No Code.

I went to order it at their web site and they said it's sold out. How in the hell can this be?

Ordering there was popular because you got a bonus CD. Off Best Buy's site it's $9.99 and you get free shipping on it, though. Might try there.

Been listening to it all day, except during the Suns getting ripped off. Great CD. I hate rating PJ albums, but this one is easily top three.

No. Horseshit. I want the 1991 bootleg, too. Freaking print more.
