Great story. I would love to see that put on something like the Touring Band 2000 DVD.

I saw them in Kansas City in 2000. At the time, the Cardinals were in the NLCS (I think) and between songs, Eddie says, "Yeah, I got some bad news ... The Cards lost their game tonight." Of course, being mostly Royals fans (poor souls), the crowd cheers wildly. Band begins to play a little bit. Vedder comes back to the mic and says, "Actually, ummmmm ... the game is tied 3-3." Crowd starts booing him.

Now, a friend of mine saw them in St. Louis the night before and he said Eddie came out and informed the crowd that the Cards had just won that night's game. St. Louis crowd goes crazy. After the fans calm down, he says, "I'm sorry, guys, actually they lost so aren't you glad you were here instead of at some fucking game?"

I remember one time around 1995 or '96 they showed Eddie on TV wearing a Wahoo hat in the Jacobs Field press box, and another time, around 2002 or '03, that he was at a Reds game and he played a few songs on a guitar that happened to be in their locker room.

If I ever cover a game and an instance like that occurs, all professionalism I may have will be out the door. Sorry; he's not a ballplayer. Standards are different.

I caught Eddie singing "Take Me Out To the Ballgame" during a Cubs game on WGN. I was stoked because I just happened upon it.

Don't take this wrong, it's coming from a guy who's a HUGE PJ fan, but doesn't he always?

I'm not a Pearl Jam fan, but Eddie Veder sounded pretty fronting Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band last year on "Betterman"

(the clip will start and stop quite a few times to the point of overly annoying the first time playing, but after it gets through one time, press the play button and it will play straight through fine)

I am also a HUGE fan, but I think Ed being drunk on stage is overrated...sure, by the end of 2-and-a-half-hour show, he drinks a lot of wine, but he isnt always drunk...He does forget some lyrics, but that is b/c PJ plays different shows every night

Didn't the wine thing start around 2001? I don't think he always did that. Hate to worry about the little guy.

i'll always remember the alpine valley 00 boot. i remember them talking about how fucking COLD it was after every song. hardcore shit. they always play alpine valley well, the 03 show was great too. nothing like busting out your best shit for 40k people in an outdoor amphitheatre. i saw radiohead there in 03, and to see that fucking hill packed to the gills with people, i was amazed. wisconsin will always have alpine valley and tailgating before brewers games as something to be proud of.

[moregeekshit]i really think i believe in miracles is one of their best new covers they have started playing. big ups to driven to tears, which they stopped playing second half of last tour. and i don't think i'm asking for much when i say they can give why go a little more love this tour. that is all.

god bless pearl jam and god bless this thread. good stuff.

  12. I'd actually start by buying any of the band's live releases. There are a ton of them. You'll hear all their stuff and lots of great covers - Neil Young's Rockin In The Free World and Fuckin Up, which the band does better than him; the Ramones' I Believe in Miracles; Dead Kennedys' Bleed For Me; Who's Baba O'Riley and Fortunate Son, etc, etc. From there, I'd start buying their studio releases in chronological order. In my opinion and in the opinion of many maniacal PJ fans, Vitalogy, Yield and No Code are their best albums, followed by the sentimental favorites Ten and Vs., then Riot Act, and Binaural last.
