    Why, you no-good, anonymous SportsJournalists.com poster/coward!

I didn't feel any great need to attend a tribute dinner held in my honor. I was busy not interviewing someone I'm not writing a book about.

I've dealt with him once or twice (he quoted me - accurately - in something he did once. Thought he was a riot.

I found this observation interesting, though. It's fascinating to me how/why someone (not Jeff in particular) who admittedly has a thin skin would strip himself down to his flaws and insecurities, as you put it.

You know? Kind of leaves the door wide open to pull those scabs off. Seems a little masochistic. But that's just me.

I'll keep my flaws and insecurities as private as I can - except for those that immediately obvious to everyone. And I don't have to write about them. ;-)

Pearlman posted a link on here about his friend who had been seriously injured in a hit and run. I sent him a PM just offering my condolences and best wishes for his friend's recovery (he posted a follow-up a week or two ago, guy's doing much better). Pearlman responded very kindly and in a very heartfelt manner. Didn't come off as arrogant at all.

Course, I signed my PM. So maybe he only hates anonymous people. :D

Pearlman once held the door me leaving the Yankee Clubhouse at Old Yankee Stadium. I said thanks he said you're welcome.

The top of my asscrack was showing and Jeff diplomatically and discreetly advised me to hitch up my trousers.

And for that we are ALL forever indebted to Jeff Pearlman.

Once I was sitting in Yankee dugout watching batting practice.

There was a guy standing there ( later realized it was Jeff) with his hat on backwards. I figured he was not aware and the polite thing to do was tell him . He curtly replied that was the way he always wore it.

This is where we can say Greggy Doyel is a douchebag, right?

The guy next to me brought that up.

Not me. The guy next to me. I bought him a scotch for that.
