That's exactly what they did. Exactly.

That IS what the League's position was "from the start." Did. Not. Work.

The league office, or the owners?

The league office is the owners.

Keeping Kaep sidelined seemed like a poor move, though. Collusion isn't a neutral stance to me.

But, yeah, I don't follow the NFL like I used to.

What the players should do is encourage FANS to kneel. It wouldn't take more than a few to start fights in the stands, lawsuits, etc.

    Play the Russian anthem.

    1. It's beautiful and inspires warriors to fight to the best of their ability.
    2. Nobody will feel compelled to stand for it.
    3. Nobody will be criticized for kneeling during it.

    Win-win-win.

Why do I have to think of everything?

I’d first encourage the players to first chop off their noses to spit their faces.

    Done deal:

Statement From NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell

    1. All team and league personnel on the field shall stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.
    2. The Game Operations Manual will be revised to remove the requirement that all players be on the field for the Anthem.
    3. Personnel who choose not to stand for the Anthem may stay in the locker room or in a similar location off the field until after the Anthem has been performed.
    4. A club will be fined by the League if its personnel are on the field and do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.
    5. Each club may develop its own work rules, consistent with the above principles, regarding its personnel who do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.
    6. The Commissioner will impose appropriate discipline on league personnel who do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.

Even money says Trump has been back-channeled about this very thing.
