    Isle will not get it.
This was discussed on a TV show in Pittsburgh last night.
They have pissed off local government with their strong arm tactics and whomever gets the license, they will build the arena.
    Bet on Harrah's.
Also, Balsille showed up at the Pens game on Saturday in Montreal. This is a ploy, he's not out of the running yet.

That's what I was wondering a couple of days ago, is Balsillie really out of the picture. I think he was pissed the league was trying to strong-arm him. You think if an arena gets approved he jumps back in, or would the owners want Cuban or someone else to take over?

Interesting that whomever gets the contract will build regardless. Harrah's is a good group, would do a good job.

Oh, also...if Capri wins the slots by some odd chance, don't be surprised if magically Mario says they are now not for sale.

Also, this from Balsille...please be seated before reading, you may pass out from shock.

But Mario was also quoted yesterday saying that he can unequivocally say that the deal with Balsillie is dead. Who knows.

So I'm watching the Pens game on VS. and they keep playing Christmas carols during the breaks.

Balsillie will probably sue to get his $10 million deposit back....

So when Pittsburgh moves to Kansas City does Columbus shift to the Eastern Conference?

Kansas City can have any team it wants ... just not this one.

    EDIT -- Dammit.

A seven-member state commission had been appointed to decide who gets the casino license. It did its job, proving wrong those who claimed "the fix is in" in favor of Harrah's and others who used their pull to back Isle of Capri. For the past year in Pittsburgh, there has been a lot of politicking aimed at the politicians and the citizens, mostly concerning the Isle of Capri and their promise to build the Penguins a new arena. But the politicians and the citizens weren't the ones who made the decision, and the local PR had no effect. It was the duly appointed board that weighed the merits in Harrisburg and selected the other applicant, Majestic Star. In that sense, the process worked.

Now then, how do we fund an arena?

    T2, you probably don't.

The only reason Heinz Field and PNC Park got built is because the local and state government basically ignored the wishes of the citizens, who voted down the stadium referendum, and built them anyway.

Pittsburgh is an old city and most of the old people are too damn selfish to invest in the city's future. That said, I'm not sure enough people in Pittsburgh do care about the Penguins for it to be worth the expense of keeping them.
