And it took 10 days for Curley to meet with McQueary?

And, at this point, McQueary either changes his story, or Curley and Schultz are lying.

But, if Paterno told Curley what McQueary had told him, there's no excuse for waiting 10 days or not calling the cops. Let them sort it out.

There's not a lot of innocent behavior that happens in a shower between a grown man and a 10-year-old child.

And, since something similar had happened before:

I'd think the Police might have an interest in this new claim.

And, I doubt Paterno was unaware of the first claim either.

Please tell me you're just trolling.

You call the police and hope like all get out what the GA is telling you is somehow one hugeass misunderstanding.

He's like the fucking Michael Jackson of football coaches.

Yeah, hey, there's nothing wrong with showering with young boys.

Speaking of reporting it to police, what about Second Mile organizers? Curley told them about the 2002 incident. They obviously didn't contact the police either. Obviously the organization has helped countless kids. But what about this failure?

    Here's a 1982 SI story on Sandusky.

    And after his retirement.

Where you work has nothing to do with this. You report this even if it would get you fired. You report it and let the police sort it out. You don't have to know it's true, you just have to know that if there's any chance it's true, you have a duty to help that kid.

And this post's my last response to you on this subject. I genuinely feel sorry for you.

    Evil,

You do understand Paterno wasn't writing a story for print, right? He's someone who was given very specific information about the rape of a 10-year-old. And didn't call the cops.

Yeah, that Jim Carty guy probably doesn't know a thing about the law.

It's not like he went to law school and is a practicing lawyer or anything.

I can actually believe Paterno didn't know. Coaches can have remarkable blinders. Or utter cluelessness, call it what you want. Sandusky might have led 95 percent of his days as a perfectly normal douchebag, not a child rapist. (Though from that GJ report, he was always setting things up, if you will.) There are also a lot of very upstanding mentors to young people. Perhaps that's what Paterno saw all these years in his coach and friend.

BUT, if you're Paterno and you get the first inkling of this from someone, your life at that moment stops. You start putting it all together. Call who you need to call, and that includes the police. Don't just harumph it off to someone else, like "wow, I never figured Jerry for a shoplifter." This is the big leagues of crime.

I don't think you need anything but a normal moral compass to figure this one out. Even if they didn't technically do anything illegal and even if they technically followed Penn State's procedures for reporting a crime - both of which are debatable - what they did was still shameful and disgusting and wrong.

I've lost count of how many times I've read one of Evil's posts on this thread and declared it the stupidest thing I've ever read on this board. But the Neverland one doubles as being almost incomprehensibly offensive, too. Using a Michael Jackson analogy when defending someone whose inactivity led to god only knows how many more children being raped by his right-hand man? You disgust me, and, I imagine, anyone else with a sliver of intelligence and decency.

If it had been a janitor raping a 10-year-old in the football complex and McQuery walked in, what would he have done? What would Paterno have done? McQueary would have intervened and he would have called the cops. If he would have gone to Paterno first, the old man would have immediately called the cops and played the hero. This was simply putting the program before anything else, including helpless children.

    Yep.

    No 24-hours before telling Paterno.

No 24-hours before Paterno tells Curley.

No 10 days before Curley meets with McQueary.

They didn't want to know the truth because they feared it would hurt their program.

I hope it does hurt their program.

Donations to the Catholic Church and Church attendance fell off after the abuse scandal. I hope PSU's donations drop dramatically.
