    Michael Lewis.

Before it's over, all of Pennsylvania will have a secret fetish that explains all of it.

I wasn't talking about legal responsibility, only moral responsibility. But what we know strongly suggests that Paterno might well be legally liable, civilly for sure and criminally perhaps, for his non-actions in this matter.
He's 85 and a civic icon. He won't be charged unless there's more better evidence than they had on Charles Manson.

So it's illogical to propose that Paterno was brought an allegation, passed it up the chain of command, and expected it to be properly resolved? Yes, he probably knew about Sandusky's earlier investigation but that was dropped too. Are we supposed to assume that accused = guilty now? Or accused twice = guilty? Or just accused of certain crimes = guilty?

I think it's very possible that that is what happened. Paterno either assumed or was told that the investigation found nothing. For him to take action against Sandusky with no proof would cause problems too. He distanced himself from Sandusky, which is all he could legally do. To suggest that he should've been shouting out that Sandusky is a child rapist when he only had an accusation to go on is what's poorly reasoned.

How about the idea PSU folks had something to do with the disappearance of the DA who initially looked into this?
The idea Sandusky was allowed to retire to the school wouldn't have to dela with the molestation charges.
Or the obvious: That Paterno knew about Sandusky's predilections and allowed them to go unchecked?

    (1) If I was told by an inferior that he witnessed someone murdering somebody in my house, do I need to know that the accused has a pattern of murdering people before I should do something about it?

    (2) Let's say that Paterno was told an investigation turned up nothing. Whose investigation? The police's? Yours? Was McQuery lying? Should I fire McQuery since he was lying? Did you tell the police? Why didn't you tell the police? Which police?

Blue. Remember, blue. Blue T-shirt, blue sweatshirt, blue raincoat, so you are ready for any occasion.

I second Rick. Shotty has brought much to this discussion. I suppose your value is that it allows us to better understand the rioting mob.

Where are those thoughts and suggestions appearing? Here? On a message board? In the newspaper? On TV?

Your "house" is a poor example.

Imagine a sports columnist going to the SE. The columnists tells the SE he just saw the preps guy teabagging a middle school cheerleader in the Hillbilly High Gym.
Is the SE gonna call the cops? Nope. I guarantee he doesn't. He goes to ME and it goes up the chain to someone higher up who makes that decision.
I have seen it happen. On more than one occasion. In similar situations.
It's happened at ESPN. Multiple times.
Paterno and PSU are no different here (IMO) ... Paterno is still a football coach; Not a attorney and certainly not somone adept to handle the situation McQueary and Sanducky placed him.

Those are all here... And just a few ... You asked me to point some out ... I did.

I'm not sure I want to be defending Second Mile, but it's possible they took the boys' picture out because they didn't want to subject the kids in the picture to any speculation.

You mean like when Paterno stood outside his house this week, and said, "It is one of the sorrows of my life and in hindsight I wish I had done more"?

I think he was talking about the victims. Perhaps he was talking about better defensive line pressure in the red zone.
