Oh, please, mb. If people can't disagree and come back to disagree some more, this website is not what I thought it was.

And there are people at the university in charge of doing those things. Paterno sent McQueary to those people.

If one of your inferior's told you he saw a murder and you sent him to the police and then you saw the accused still walking around later, would you start your own investigation? Would you report that the guy was a murderer anyway? What if you asked the police about it and they said it was nothing? Would it matter if the accused was your friend, who you wouldn't expect to do such a thing?

I think both possibilities are still possible. Either Paterno was lied to by Curley, Schultz, or someone else or he is a rotten bastard who only cares about himself and his team. He's done a lot of good but he's also been pretty dictatorial about PSU. I seem to be one of about three people that can see both possibilities.

Do the Paterno nutswingers really think that the AD, the former Paterno walk on, was Paterno's "boss" in an real way?

See, that's why I'm not over the top with Paterno until you get to the point where he walked down the same halls as Sandusky, knowing that whatever had happened had gone unchecked.

But when you get into the reporting issue ... if any of you tell me you'd automatically go to the police in this case, I believe you. I can't tell you that you're wrong. But before the past seven days, I can say I'd honestly have thought that going to my workplace superior would have been my first thought. Not that it would be today.

The reporting of the incident was wrong, but I don't believe it to be maliciously wrong.

    Wow.

Player-related knife fight in a dining hall: McQueary's your man to step in and break things up.

It wasn't going to the AD that was wrong. It was the inactivity for the next 9 years when you still see the molester hanging around the campus... and doing nothing.

Nobody is going to change the minds of the Penn State supporters on this board. That's fine. They can believe whatever they want. Just as I don't have to be a D.A. to express an opinion on a message board. Whether you're a pom-pom waving member of Team Paterno or you think he could be charged with a crime at some point, the facts are going to all come spilling out. And it's going to be a much bigger mess than it is now. That much I will guarantee.

I don't. But for chain-of-command issues such as this, yes. Especially in cases like this. He's the person to send McQueary to. In Evil's example, even if the SE is a bigger name than the ME, the SE would pass it on.

    Exactly what I just said.

I'm all for disagreeing. But the defending at every turn is a little ridiculous.

So you don't think he was talking about calling the police or following up on his report to his bosses?

No, it's pretty obvious he was thinking of something worse.
