Precisely! Paterno had no bosses, not even the president. Thankfully, the Board finally grew a set and fired that douche. Paterno is a disgrace.

Well, I'm glad you're definitive about your convictions.

Apparently Sam Stellatella suffered some brain injuries as result of his playing years.

In your hypothetical example, the sports columnist and the SE should both be ashamed of themselves.

I'm kind of new here, mb. What percentage of the accusations am I allowed to defend? Does it make the mob feel better if most of the shit they throw out goes unquestioned?

So, in TeamBud's idea of the facts, Paterno passed the information on, then assumed that the investigation must have cleared Sandusky, so he considered his involvement in the issue to be complete.

He didn't wonder why McQueary had lied. He didn't wonder why Sandusky was asked not to bring children on campus. He just decided it wasn't his problem anymore.

That doesn't make him look particularly good.

If that was a brainless throwaway reaction, just reply with "Mugglemurph."

Still think this is where football culture and JoePa knows best comes into play. McQueary probably felt like a hero the day he broke up the knife fight. That was a manly thing to do. Had he gone to the police and brought down Joe Paterno even by accident -- or even embarrassed the old man enough that he was forced to step down -- he would have been vilified and threatened by the same people who are vilifying him and threatening him now for not doing enough.

And even if you don't believe that's the case, that McQueary would have been celebrated, I think it's very clear McQueary could have felt that way.

A lot of people who want to tear McQueary apart really don't want to acknowledge how much college football programs make you feel like everything should be dealt with "in house." That by bucking the system, you're betraying your family. It's brainwashing. And you can believe, as Boom clearly does, that I'm a bitter pussy ex-jock with an ax to grind when I suggest such things. But it's still real.
