    With pay.

And that makes me think there's a whistleblower law at play.

Northern Illinois University tore down the building that was the site of a shooting:

I talked to a former PSU player earlier in the week who said working with Second Mile was not pushed on the players.

I still say there's a guaranteed lifetime contract lying around, signed in 2002.

Well that's not the same thing as "DO NOT get involved there, at all, under any circumstances," which you would think would have been the advice.

They're especially afraid to act when it could jeopardize their livelihood, and therefore their families, homes, everything they have spent a lifetime building.

Look at what happened to Abar Rouse, the Baylor basketball assistant coach who blew the whistle on the Patrick Dennehy scandal. It's been almost a decade since he did the right thing and spilled the beans. And what was his reward for doing the right thing? Getting blackballed from the coaching ranks and having his career ruined. Read the story ESPN did a few years back (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=oneil_dana&id=3371852) - even Mike Kryzezewski, who is portrayed as one of college sports' squeaky clean figures - said he wouldn't hire him.

Look, McQueary should have done a lot more and he'll have to answer to his maker for that. But just understand why so few in similar circumstances do so.

Coach K is a pile of waste, as are most of the coaches fawned over on ESPN.

Plus, wouldn't McQueary's dad have been present for that conversation with Paterno? Or would he have stayed in the car while his son had the most important conversation he'd ever have with the coach? Is he now considered a grand jury witness?

Another plus, McQueary's dad is described "a renowned coach in the State College area himself in youth sports." He coaches kids and yet never thought maybe HE should go to police once it was clear Sandusky was still holding his camps for kids and what not?
I'm assuming he believed his son when that son told him he saw a man raping a child. What is wrong with these people?

And that's why I say I kind of understand going to Paterno instead of police. It was the wrong thing to do, but he probably believed someone else would bring in police once he reported it, and it made more sense from a career standpoint.

You still have to stop the rape. Deal with the fallout later, but save that kid. No way around that one.

Signs point very clearly to an additional level of complication here. It'll come out sooner or later.

    Well, there's also McQueary's dad.

(Oops, just noticed that Luggy already made that point way back.)
