One thing lost in the stampede to say McQueary should have jumped in and stopped the attack (for the record, I concur) is the reports indicate Sandusky saw McQueary and knew he had been spotted -- I would guess Sandusky probably stopped the actual assault at that point.

Unless he just gave McQueary a thumbs-up sign, a big wink and a grin and said, "how's it goin buddy boy, just hang on, I'll be done here in a few minutes, OK?"

Of course, allowing Sandusky to stop the assault and then stroll easily back to his office basically amounts to the same thing.

I blame McQueary for most of this. He's the link that could've broken the chain. And because of him, victims suffered for years because of this dirty fuck Sandusky.

But, I also understand how people react in different situations. Here's my example.

I often wondered how I would react when faced with the situation of putting myself and my crew in eminent danger to remove wounded Soldiers from a battlefield. Honestly, I thought for hours and hours on end. After hearing the old-timers talk of Iraq from 03-06 and some of the younger guys talk about their deployment to Afghanistan in 07-08. As the summer fighting season began to ramp up in 2010, I knew my time was coming.

My commander and I were prepositioned at a pretty remote outpost to support an operation during which a special forces unit expected significant casualties. We knew a tough mission or two was ahead, and our stomachs were in knots all day. About 1400, the call came and it was just what we'd expected. It went from one casualty to six between the time I got the mission and the time I got on the radio in the helicopter.

When we took off I contacted the ground unit and was confronted with my situation. Remember the scene in "We Were Soldiers" where they had the radio set up in the woods and they could hear the gunfire in a battle? It was EXACTLY like that. I could hear gunfire, explosions and people screaming at one another over the radio. My commander and I looked acros the cockpit at one another for a brief second, and that was it.

We dropped down into what I can only describe as a Hollywood summer blockbuster movie scene. Mortars, RPGs, small arms. You name it. And neither I, nor any of the other crewmembers, ever outwardly hesitated.

The only moment of hesitation I can remember was thinking to myself that because we were flying with the cockpit doors removed was, "Fuck. My legs are exposed."

I tell this story not to show how big and bad and brave I am. If you know me, you know it's exactly the opposite. I'm a big ole puss cake. But when someone else needs you -- REALLY needs you -- like another person being raped, you put your personal issues and personal safety aside and you help. Period.

No, he should not have went to Paterno or called his dad. He should've stopped the rape and called the police. Immediately. No excuse for any other action. He's the No. 2 guilty party in this situation.

I hope McQueary burns in hell after a long life of remembering what he could've stopped.

Geez, my local Fox station is leading with Mark Madden's rumor mill about the pimping.

That's a great story, tbf. It required a ton from you, and you came through and will never doubt whether you can come through.

You were also trained for it and had played the scenario out in your mind.

How much time do you think Mike McQueary had spent in his life going over the "what do I do if I see someone that I've known all my life and is considered a legend raping a boy in the showers" scenario?

I don't think training or thinking about it really has much to do with the situation. He saw a boy being raped and then walked away. I just can't get past that.

Lester Munson agrees with my man JR and suggests, among other things, that PSU quit football for at least two years.

I say this with an enormous amount of respect and gratitude for your willingness to take up such a cross. But I must argue that your lack of hesitation to do your job also reflects a substantial amount of training and socialization directed at just that end. You had been dealing with the idea that you likely would have to deal with something like that for a long time. Your organization had also been dealing with that idea, which is why it put so much emphasis into training you as to how to react. It's not unreasonable to believe, however, that McQueary never fathomed being in such a circumstance. Further, as described there was no lead-up to the discovery; he stumbled across a scene that he wasn't remotely prepared for. Please note that I am not defending his reaction (or lack thereof) in any way, but I understand some of why he reacted the way he did.

McQueary, who saw Sandusky raping a child, is the director of recruiting, yes?

Sometimes I feel like Penn State football should be burnt to the fucking ground.
