They're not arguing it being enough. They're disputing you saying it was NOTHING.

    BIGGGGG difference.

What would JoePa think of that defeatist attitude?

Maybe I missed it earlier on the thread, but did anyone catch Rich Eisen's point about how odd it was that a moment of sience was held for the victims, given that the victimization took place for so long because of an institutional code of silence?

Well, 106,000 people are just all tingly that you agree.

Hey, canceling that Duke lacrosse team's season really caused a sea change when it comes to sexual assault ...

    Oh, wait.

Where the fuck did I argue it was? I specifically fucking said it wasn't.

That's what healing feels like. How terrible those few days of a completely refusal to self-reflect must have been.

Those same 106,000 people can't wait to deify the next coach who wins a lot of football games, enabling a situation just like the one they just healed from. Because heaven forbid football be put into perspective.

    Fair enough.

Actually, voluntary suffering, or giving something up in service of making amends or showing remorse, is the very definition of atonement or contrition.

To have forfeited one game as a gesture of institutional remorse would have gone much farther toward actual healing of the community.

No, many of them, as per banners and shirts and signs, are tingly thinking about the memories of and sympathy for a man they revered, but was revealed to have not done all he could to prevent someone from abusing little boys.

It would be interesting to know how many Penn State players over the past 2 decades came from within the Two Mile club. Has that ever been determined?
