What about: "It doesn't make a damn bit of difference how the whole sordid story will play out so they might as well play and let the JoePa sycophants look like assholes on national television." ?

The outpouring of unbridled support for JoePa makes me wonder what would have happened to the AD if he'd actually been able to pull the trigger on JoePa's firing, when he visited the house a few years back?

The game had to be played. You have a contract with the school, the conference and the tv networks. You also have many innocent people (current players) who deserve no punishment for the sins of Sandusky and those who covered up his alleged unforgivable acts.

Could the University have done some things differently this weekend, yes. Several thoughts: outlawing any signs in the stands related to Paterno and eliminating all tailgating.

The interim president's message was sincere, even if it was school-serving. And it was another thing done differently this weekend, and in my opinion, correctly

Nothing can excuse the actions of those who covered up these crimes. Penn State University will suffer greatly for those inactions. Not only the football program, but the university as a whole will end up enduring great damage. For all of the good Joe Paterno did, his inaction will cost the school more than the $4 million that he has donated over time.

What is being forgotten here is that Sandusky allegedly committed these crimes. I won't go all the way back, but how long has it been since he has been mentioned.

The media's attitude shows they -- by and large -- still don't get it either.

Just got some food at a local bar. They were showing the CBS Auburn-Georgia game on one of the TVs.

The sound was off, but the halftime report began with an update of the Penn State game.

The chyron in the box behind the talking head read, "no win for Joe."

For Joe? Really? Was that what today was about? Winning one for Joe.

He wouldn't have been able to attend games & would have been in protective custody, just like McQueary.

Still curious to know who was "threatening" McQueary -- people upset that he remained silent, or people upset he brought down JoePa.

I'm guessing a little bit of both.

Yes, it's a shame that he was treated like that just for stating his opinion. Even when his opinion didn't agree with the majority of those around him. People should be able to disagree without being ridiculed, swore at, and shouted down. I'm glad that doesn't happen around here.

    Wait, what?

    You poor thing.

You've been a real martyr this week.

Your suffering must have been enormous -- incomparable really.

Some very interesting stuff from Bo Pelini, who said he didn't think the game should have been played.

It's inspiring to see a college coach actually have this perspective. And, as much as it may seem otherwise, I wasn't dead-set against the game. But the way it played out and, especially after reading Nathan Fenno's FANTASTIC story, it just all turned out the way I feared.

There's also the new Penn State president Rodney Erickson saying he felt it should be played to bring awareness to sexual abuse -- no, the vigil last night did that very well -- and he thinks the way the players and everyone conducted themselves made that the right decision.
    Sigh.

An example of how that message was heeded by the players, from linebacker Nate Stupar, according to stories I've seen:

"There were a lot of emotions going on. I used the emotions to fuel the fire."

Didn't feel like a martyr at all. But I expected the type of response from some people that I got for challenging their views on this. I'm sure this guy knew what was coming too. To see some people here so surprised that those sick Penn Staters could behave so rudely to someone with a different opinion just struck me as funny.

    Wow. Just wow.

I guess if you're not going to get it, though, you might as well be fully committed to not getting it.
