And, I'm not saying it's cut and dry that they should have canceled the game.

I just don't think enough people have thought about it in those terms.

I'm on the fence. But, I don't feel any better about things having watched the game.

Would fans elsewhere behave just as poorly as those who mocked and threatened the protestor? Sadly, I think yes.

I'd say yes, especially a bunch of tanked fans. It's more a college football culture problem, IMO.

The game not being played would not have punished the players. It would have helped them understand the gravity of the situation. That life lesson would have been worth a million times more than playing their big "Senior Day."

On 9/11, I went to a prep tennis match that was actually played that night. The kid I talked to, valedictorian of his class or close to it, told me that he was using the events of the day as a reminder that there are always going to be things to take him away from his focus. And he had to overcome it, that this was a challenge.

    His coach stood beaming nearby.

Soccer teams have played in empty stadiums in Europe.

I just recalled the Ohio State president joking that he hoped Jim Tressel wouldn't fire him. Ha ha ha. Now this.

    Fuck, fuck, fuck. Fuckity fuck.

Blow the whole fucking system up. Honest to God. I'm watching the Ivy League from now on. That's how I feel. Fuck these fuckers.

Except for two things. The Penn State culture has always put itself on a pedestal. AND if there ever was a time for fans to be on their best behavior, this was it. That so many in specific instances failed miserably to do so tarnishes the school even further.

The whole idea of college sports is pretty silly if you lay it on its side for a minute.

The idea of staunchly defending a college sports organization and getting angry when it is attacked, even dumber.

    Those are fair points.
