What is just so infuriating is how the Big Ten holds itself up as a paragon of virtue in the muck of college football. Better schools. Higher principles. And so on and so forth.

And in the last couple years we've got Rich Rodriguez getting Michigan in trouble.

We've got Tressel covering up his players' indiscretions.

Not to mention the Minnesota academic scandal a few years ago. And Kelvin Sampson.

    Now we've got this.

I am no longer interested in hearing any morality speeches from the Big fucking Ten. I'm not.

The Penn State Rivals site front page:

    Hed: Strong showing
Subed: In spite of a tough 17-14 loss to Nebraska on Saturday afternoon, the Nittany Lions were connected through the outpouring of grief and support of an entire community.

Fuck you, Penn State Rivals site front page.

Don't forget Michigan State players wilding across mid-Michigan in a variety of ways.

Oh, and Iowa's strength and conditioning coaches hospitalizing players ... and Iowa players running an organized Section 8 housing ring, where they ripped off a government program (Ferentz's son included) ... and Iowa's top receiver turning out to be a drug dealer last year.

The hits just go on and on ...

And Steve Alford trying to cover up a sexual assault.

And Northwestern killing one of its players.

    And Northwestern shaving points.

This is something I've been thinking a lot about and I think it depends on the place. There'd probably be some fans acting that way no matter where you go, but Penn State is one of those places that let one man become bigger than the football program and the institution.

Even a lot of places where people are rabid about the football or basketball programs I think the reaction would be get these horrible people away from my team and my school. At Penn State, I think a lot of people find it impossible to wrap there minds around the fact Paterno wasn't a perfect god. Paterno [/i]is[/i] Penn State to many, many people.

Talked with a high school coach this morning who has a big time DB playing for him that did really, really well at Penn State's skills camp this past summer. This coach has met Sandusky on a few occasions, post-2000, and he was obviously shaken by this entire event. He cannot see Penn State ever getting a big time player for a long, long time. They might get a few local kids, but Penn State will slowly decay as a football program over the coming years. It four years, they might not even be good enough to beat Northwestern.

I sort of thought bringing in an outside coach and cleaning house would save them, but after talking him, right now I am very unsure.

That might have been a dead program walking on the field today. They have some life now, and will next season, but in 3-4 years, they might be on par with a James Madison, not Michigan.

It's really not that hard to see kids with options letting this be a dealbreaker as it relates to going to Penn State.

And that one college football conference thinks itself and its ideals to be nobler than other conferences -- even fucking stupider.

That's right. West Virginia is not up to the standards of the Big 10. IIRC, this was brought up on another thread.

The Herald has really cornered the market on reporting on great reporters who break great stories.

I had no idea she is 24.

And she is spot on about crime reporters should be doing the heavy lifting on this story.
