Wow. The Front Page Editorial is not a well you can go to often, but this case warrants it, and they delivered.

My only quibble is calling for this to be Paterno's last season. He should be cleaning out his desk right now.

To allow him to finish out the season is to let him walk away with some dignity, and "on his own terms", since it would be termed a retirement.

It would be protecting him, the program, and the University.

None of it is deserved. Joe should go right now.

Very strong editorial by Harrisburg until the end, when JoePa was given some grace. There's no way 400-some wins trumps children being sexually assaulted in his locker room while he did nothing about it. He's the iconic figure at that school, and when it was time to show true leadership, he vanished. He passed the buck. He walked away. He should quit today, and if he doesn't, he should be terminated.

I was in Dub Kilgo's volleyball class when I was a freshman in college in 1982. He was not good as a volleyball referee.

I'm with you--nothing about Paterno and this case, not even the unmentionable, would surprise me at this point. But it's a stretch to believe Cope knew THIS, or something even worse than THIS, was going on when he wrote the above graph. My guess is he just saw a program that was as immoral than any other D-I program when it came to recruiting bad kids, breaking the rules and doing shit that gets the Cleveland States of the world punished, yet got away with it all thanks to its remote location and a sycophant local press and police force.

That quote is not related to Sandusky, or child rape, or anything else. It's just saying that it's easier when your school is big shit and more remote to push things under the rug. Ohio State also gets stuff swept under the rug. Miami. Duke. Duh. No one's saying they're not.

But they took THAT QUOTE and moved on from it. They didn't say Cope knew about Sandusky. Never even HINTED at it. It was an entry point to a post in which they asked for dirt on PSU. It's a lead-in. It's a hook.

I have always said everyone's perspective is helpful, and when I get told to sit on the side, it pisses me off.

My question is why the hell Myron Cope? If you want an expert on college football and a historian, especially in Pennsylvania, wake up Beano Cook and ask him his thoughts.

Because it's just a freaking quote about Penn State and things being covered up. They could have used ANYONE. It was just a quote to lead to what they wanted. They weren't associating Cope with this case, or anything REMOTELY ATTACHED to it. Just ... a lead quote.

Agree with the others that it's a good front page by the Patriot News, but they let JoePa off. He shouldn't be allowed to coach another practice. When it hit the fan, he did the barest of bare minimums and wants to say that's enough. What a fraud.
