Disingenuous. What does Paterno say when McQuery comes to him highly upset about something Jerry Sandusky is doing to a young boy?

"Sandusky, oh yeah, I remember that guy. Sure was funny how he resigned right out of the blue in 1998. Every time I see him walking around the football building or taking kids into the showers, I wonder what was really up with that."

If this were basketball it would be a step up, as Ship proved a couple of years ago.

It was easier to bring down Silvio Berlusconi than it is Joe Paterno.

Understand that he was concerned about his position but
I still have to wonder why Mcquery did not confront Sandusky in shower.

The Baylor basketball program was shut down and the players survived. Some flourished, even.

I don't see how this is any less bad than Baylor.

One part of this that shows how ill-prepared Penn State was. The grand jury investigation has been going on for months, if not years. Heck, Sandusky told the co-author of his book back in April that he was being investigated (according to an interview I saw today). Penn State knew this was happening for months, and had no plan for when it came out.

It's amazing to think that officials there let Sandusky on campus through all of this while the investigation was going on. If Sandusky had been arrested suddenly Saturday it would be a little more understandable. But the AD, president and everyone else (including Paterno) must have just thought it would all go away.

That's an amazing lack of preparation, and they are paying a heavy price now.

That part doesn't surprise me. Could totally see myself reacting the same way. That is a fucked up thing to walk in on.

Well, that's the report so far. I'm hoping that's about all the GA got out and Paterno said, "You've got to take this to Curley immediately!" That would be how he's supposed to handle reports brought to him (or at least that's how it works at my workplace). There is a reasonable expectation that those people get the details and go to the cops if it's real.

I know this is extreme wishful thinking. I still think it's plausible and lines up with the reports so far. If true, the worst Paterno did is try to create some deniability for himself while still expecting it to be dealt with. Any more info to Paterno from the GA or any involvement by Paterno in deciding that it didn't need to be reported and I am off the JoePa bandwagon and in full "hate" mode. Maybe moreso than those of you with no affiliation.

I'm hearing rumors that part of the reason that it got to a Grand Jury level and took three years is that PSU wasn't cooperating with investigators.

I think we've all considered this, and we all believe we would act in the most heroic Chuck Norris fashion we could, and Sandusky might even end up dead as a result and we would all be OK with that.

But I know there is the chance that if I saw something that horrifying, something that would easily rank as the worst and most traumatizing moment of my own life just to see it, I might be in shock. I might throw up and be in a complete trance before I figure out what the hell I just saw.

To me McQueary's is the explanation I most want to hear, and the one I'm prepared to give the most leeway on.

Multiple members of an organization on a university campus, including the person responsible for the entire infrastructure of the organization, were responsible for the continued freedom and activities of a serial predatory pedophile.

No, it is not a leap of sensibilities to say that the organization needs to be torn down.

The next time a coach wants to carry water for one of his friends and people get hurt, I don't want Paterno being allowed to gracefully retire being what they remember about the consequences.
