I'll definitely admit to wearing blue and white on this one. It's the school I went to and the coach who has been there since long before I was. I need solid proof. I don't think that's "bad" though when we're talking about this kind of charge against him.

Let me ask you - would you run a story in your paper now that reads that Paterno allowed a known child molestor to maintain his office on campus and association with the university for eight years after Paterno was told that the man raped a boy on campus? Would you write that he participated in covering up this rape? I don't think those charges are ready to be printed yet but some of you are using that as the basis of your opinion.

I'll wait for proof. If you have it, let me read it so I can stop defending him.

How can school loyalty trump the molestation of preteen children? Jesus, what is wrong with some of you?

And, yes, the local high school had more integrity and a greater sense of duty to simply alert law enforcement authorities about this conduct than the supposed flagship university. What a disgrace. Congratulations to the boosters on here for being on the wrong side of history. Go team!

This has probably been posted, but if you haven't seen it, Michael Weinreb - a Penn State guy - on the situation.

I try not to be too surprised about opinions that come out of left field, particularly since sports cheering is a fairly irrational exercise to begin with, but I have to say the ardent and emotional defense of someone who abetted a serial child molester is something I didn't expect to ever see.

ESPN says there's a large group of students now waiting outside Paterno's home waiting to cheer him upon his return from practice.

Some people are really too emotionally involved in this program and need to step back for a day or two.

Makes me worry about some of my posts after the death of Declan Sullivan at Notre Dame.

As YF said, students are currently holding a pro-JoePa rally in front of his house. This is absolutely incredible ... and more than a little sickening.

ScottPa apparently still promising/threatening a public statement by Daddy in the next day or so.

How are those last two levels any different? The only thing that would change my opinion in the least is if Paterno had no clue about ANY of this. We know that's absolutely not true.

To your second two points, again, what is the difference? Which one is worse? Why would it be any better if Paterno knowingly stuck his head in the sand? That's incredibly cowardly. Almost as cowardly as preying on little boys.

Drudge has a link up to this story:

This story is going to just keep getting worse, and the nine years since the 2002 incident are only going to be more painful.
