If they have scholarship reductions, why should they be allowed to benefit due to the transgressions of another?

How does PSU's penalty look compared to this:

The N.C.A.A. handed down stiff penalties against Central Florida on Tuesday, banning it from the postseason next year in football and basketball for its dealings with a man identified by the organization as a recruiter for a sports agent.

The N.C.A.A. also cited Central Florida for a lack of institutional control and put it on five years of probation, imposed scholarship restrictions, vacated basketball wins for three seasons and fined the university $50,000. The athletic director and an assistant football coach had already resigned.

The university announced it would appeal the postseason football ban. It will not appeal the ruling against the basketball program, which will not play in either the Conference USA tournament or the N.C.A.A. tournament. Central Florida will enter the Big East for the 2013-14 season.

The N.C.A.A. enforcement staff has long struggled with agent-related issues. What the N.C.A.A. found particularly disturbing was that Keith Tribble, the former athletic director, and the basketball and football staffs enabled the so-called runner for an agent, Ken Caldwell, in his recruitment of Central Florida prospects.

“In this case, it’s particularly troubling that the Central Florida athletic staff members not only knew, but sometimes encouraged the rule breaking by these third parties,” said Greg Sankey, the executive associate commissioner of the Southeastern Conference and a member of the N.C.A.A.’s infractions committee. “By accepting and actively embracing these individuals as a part of the recruiting process, the university put itself in a difficult position.”

The article doesn't mention if the university has taken down the statue of their former head coach, or if any candle light vigils have been held, so it's unclear to me where they are in the healing process.

Hopefully, most of the players will remain, to help bring the community together.

Lack of institutional control?

Does the article mention what the NCAA found regarding the 2008 death of a UCF football player and what role UCF officials played in that tragedy? A jury last summer found UCF officials negligent and awarded the family $10 million.

Did the NCAA even comment on that situation? Can't find anything on the web.

As for Penn State, even with the understandable departure of Redd it appears most of the players will remain. One way to help bring that community together.

How many schools do you think will give up a future recruit? And how many will dump some second teamer and keep how many will give up a schlarship next year. My guess is 95% of D-1 schools send a current payer packing?
