Agreed. It was about as official and bland as you can get.

Nothing wrong with the letter. The trustees, on the other hand, can get bent.

It's offensive by the fact that it's in Sports Illustrated. It's another example of the high profile approach that the football program has taken only a week into their sanctions.

Personally I think it would be better for Penn State to lay low this year, lick their wounds and crank it up for 2013 season.

Actually they should get fired for gross negligence.

Sigh ... and the Paterno family still insists on making itself more embarrassing every time they hold a news conference.

Someone needs to tell them they can't appeal to the NCAA because no one in the family was a party to the sanctions. Penn State signed off on the deal. End of story.

They have have passed the Jackson family for being whacky.

It's one thing to stand up for Joe Paterno in their public statements. They are his family. What else can they do?

But this? Idiotic. Are they really going to consider a lawsuit so his name can get dragged through the mud even more? Are they really stupid enough to think that more digging is actually going to help?

There might be something worse out there. They need to just shut up and spend the old man's settlement and pension.

I don't think there is any question that there is something worse connected to this story that we haven't heard about yet.

Penn State is in too big a hurry to "move on" and the state doesn't seem too interested in taking a longer look at The Second Mile for some reason.

The next step in that scenario -- Sandirtbag firing back with both barrels re Paterno/Penn State's dirty laundry, in the open -- would have been interesting to behold.

The more they look, the uglier is gets. I probably wouldn't want to be the one doing the digging around on that.
