Again, I never said the violations were equivalent. I never even implied it. Let me say it: They are not the same. That said, Penn State was not sanctioned because of child rape. It was sanctioned because of it's reaction to a potential pedophile within their midst.

At any rate, it's not necessary for the infractions to be equal for the standards to be so.

Again with the ignorance. Just apply all your Penn State stereotypes to me because I've questioned something.

Believe it or not, I didn't go to PSU and I'm not from Pennsylvania. In fact, I actually went to a conference rival school. I have no reason to hold a bias toward PSU or Paterno.

and people such as yourself never should be allowed to be around children. obviously you don't get that paterno not only failed as an employee but as a human being as well. somehow, i have to wonder, if in his shoes, if you would have made the same choice.
comparing the PSU "mistake" to anything else is the equivalent of saying raping children really isn't as bad as (insert your topic here).

and on a personal note: naw, dude. i wasn't ridiculing. you just made an ignorant statement and i responded with an honest thought.

No doubt. The NCAA saw the chance to gain some PR points and jumped all over Penn State. It was like giving Timothy McVeigh the death penalty. Make him out to be the devil and people will just applaud you for piling on.

You don't gave to go to Penn State to show your devotion. Your comments here prove otherwise. The question becomes why people not tied to Penn State are so staunch in their opinion child rape isn't a big deal.

    Stitch,

I guess it's the same rationale people have in defending gun rights immediately after a shooting in Colorado or Milwaukee. I see the argument, but give it a little time to simmer down.

As for this, the main argument I hear/read is that the many are suffering for the misdeeds of a few. Put yourself in their position, of a student, a coach, a professor, an SID. What would you do? Would you up and leave? Stick it out?

What, killing 168 people isn't worth the death penalty?

Boy, you're picking some smelly horses to hitch your pity-party bandwagon to.

    Starman,

Just used that as an example where public sentiment was very strong against a particular person. Same here. Outside of Penn., Sandusky, Paterno and the whole school were being portrayed as the personification of evil. No penalty would have been harsh enough to satisfy some of the critics, just like James Holmes will not garner much sympathy at his trial.

On the other hand, if the NCAA goes softer, a certain segment of the audience will throw a fit on being "soft on crime".

Except for your friends who had no clue who Sandusky was and after you told them what he was accused of doing, said, "Is that all?", right ...

I am just learning now from Mark2010 that Timothy McVeigh was demonized because the FBI and DOJ wanted to score some PR points.

    This is an interesting site.
