I think some of the trustees resent not at least being heard before a decision was reached. I can understand that.

I know I shouldn't, but I can't stop myself from perusing at Penn State messageboards. It's like rubbernecking at a really bad traffic accident. There are a lot of folks in that fanbase with a very loose acquaintance with reaity.

There was actually a discussion on one of the boards today about how funny it was going to be when PSU won its appeal and Lane Kiffin had to "give back" Silas Redd.

I doubt the NCAA responds. Four trustees have the same legal standing as four guys buying Penn State gear in the State College Walmart.

Probably. No reason for them to do anything unless/until a court forces them to do so by declaring current sanctions invalid.

If I were the NCAA, I would order the Penn State Board of Trustees as a body to vote on a resolution on whether or not to accept the sanctions, with the understanding that a vote to reject the sanctions would in and of itself constitute an institutional decision to reject NCAA authority, by definition a statement of Lack of Institutional Control, and as a result, Penn State would be unconditionally expelled from the NCAA for a period of five years, at which time it could APPLY for reinstatement and BEGIN the process of restarting sports programs.

In other words, we'll see you in Division III in about 2019.

if i were them, i'd resent gerald arthur sandusky anally raping 10-year-old boys in the locker room just a little bit more.
and these pieces of shit wonder why people across america hate them so badly. these assholes still are explaining away child rape in the name of football. when will these assholes get it?

The Penn State community is a prideful one. That's why there is a strong fraction that wants to fight the NCAA on the sanctions. The problem as many of t hem see it s that a few individuals have overturned the apple cart so to speak.
I don't think no one is condoning what has happened. I think they feel that the actions of a few are hurting the masses.
There is a valid point there. The kids who are playing there now had nothing to do with Sandusky or his actions. They're being penalized, which isn't right, but it is what it is.
It would be prudent for the trustees to take the sanctions and go away quietly but they feel that they weren't consulted about all the options they had. It's is their way of having their say on the matter.
Again, shutting the program down served no purpose. The NCAA made the right call in not doing so. The program will survive and may be better than ever in time. Right now, this whole thing is raw to the people of Happy Valley. Plenty of emotion and not a lot common sense is kicking in.

the players are not being penalized at all. we've been over this a thousand times.
    1. keep a scholarship and not play.
    2. move on and you're not penalized.
    3. stay, if that's what you want to do.
to say that players are being penalized is a straw man argument.

and you know what? fuck the trustees. if they didn't know what sandusky was doing, they created the environment that allowed it to happen. fuck penn state and fuck their pride. it's time for everybody associated with penn state football to be sorry. very, very, very sorry. nothing else is acceptable. you don't get excused for fucking up children's lives like that.

yup, that about covers it, longtime.
fucking tool bags just don't get it, and i blame the administration and even that dead fucking child enabler for setting the tone/table. if either one of those were my kid, i'd drive to that POS school, make her pack and send her to a community college.

TP, I hear you. The point that they are making is that some innocent people are being hurt. I understand that too. Sandusky is getting his. Joe Pa is gone. The others are going to trial. It will even itself out.
I don't agree with the trustees latest ploy but I understand why they are fighting it. l
