Just want to say, Tom Petty, that you are pretty much posting word for word what I think. I almost applauded when reading some of your posts on this thread.

I understand what TP is saying and to some point agree with him, but I think there were many many people who did not know what was going on. Many of them have been affected, which explains why they feel as if the NCAA pissed on them.

    Exactly.

I have less empathy for the fans, because it never really was THEIR team to begin with, regardless of how much money they donated. But there are a lot of players, coaches, staff who had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the matters in question who are being hurt as well.

Quite a few years ago, a sister paper of one of my former shops had an editor arrested for --- and later convicted of --- sexual assault of a minor. No one in the newsroom knew what was going on. Would it have been right to shut down the entire paper, or fire everyone, because of his actions?

Did they cover up the crimes?

If not, please stop making this inapt comparison.

Drip & Mark, you do not agree with Tom Petty -- at all. Drip, because you're a fanboi, who thinks he's being enlightened by looking at things from "several angles" and putting the scandal in it's "proper context".

Mark is just not wired to be properly offended by sexual assault.

And, the difference between Mark's newsroom, and the PSU Football Building is obvious. People within the PSU Football Building did know sexual assaults were being committed there, and did nothing.

Someone please explain to me how these poor people within the Penn State football program are being victimized by this? The team is still in operation, support staff still have jobs, players still have the opportunity to play and the precious ticket takers and Coke vendors still get to earn a living for seven Saturdays a fall. When you compare it to what Enron employees got when their top brass were found to be lying, cretinous shits, it's a helluva' deal.

Are you me? Can you tell me what I'm feeling? I don't think so.
When I wrote I understood how TP feels, that's what I mean. What part of the post did you not understand?

I can't speak for everyone, but from what I'm hearing, many feel as though they are supposed to held responsible for the actions of a few misguided souls.
